Um... Ok.... What is your opinion of federalism? Like a federation of states vs like a centralised government.

I think there are certain situations in which a states authority should be allowed and upheld. Such as the legalization of Drugs. I think states should have the ultimate power to decide for themselves whether or not they want to legalize drugs. But there are certain cases such as in times of war where the federal government's authority should be key. It depends on the situation honestly.

Are you upset with having conservatism hijacked by people who are in no way conservative?

The long time member who started a thread to ask him questions as a liberal - declaring he will win any debate - has found it impossible to even define what being a liberal means. So his thread really is "I don't know what I stand for, ask me any questions."

As a new member can you define what you mean by saying you are a conservative?

Yes "loaded" down with bumperstickers and emotional associations to certain words and phrases. terms such as liberal or conservative or progressive or libertarian or socialis are used with deliberately obfuscated definitions designed to encompass all that may agree ro disagree on any particular policy.

The idea that many "conservatives" have that "liberals" do not also derive their values from the constitution and rule of law is stupid. Just like many think that liberals are all atheist/heathens which is also pretty damn stupid thing to say. the same can be said from the other side with many equating conservative with being a racist for instance.

It's about time people got over their visceral, emotional Pavlovian responses to opposing ideas and ideologies and started working cooperatively on the issues and challenges. Compromise and concession most often takes more guts than blindly following an outmoded ill defined yet entrenched ideology.

Are you in favor of limited democracy or expansive, inclusive, thorough-going democracy? What I mean is are you in favor of voting as the extent of "democracy" or do you favor democracy that extends any farther than the voting booth?

Sounds like ethical hedonism where one is free to peruse happiness but not at the expense of another's happiness. Is that a fair analysis? What if any litmus test do you use when faced with a moral dilemma? If you do not use a litmus test, do you use a form of group think such as common sense?

That is not at all what I meant. When I said I am for freedom and Liberty, I don't mean I am for Liberty and freedom at the expense of others. Also, when faced with a moral dilemma I try, sometimes unsuccessfully, to use as much logic and reason to come to a conclusion that I believe is morally and reasonably satisfactory.

Democracy is to me, a societal system in which people govern themselves either by running the government as a collective or by electing leaders to do the bidding of the voters through a republican form of a democratic system.

Ok. That's the sort of answer I was looking for, although it's not quite the one I prefer. Are you saying that in your "dreams" democracy ends at the door to your employment? Or do you support the idea of democratic participation in your work life?

What specifically do you mean " in your work life", are you asking me as to whether there should be demoacracy at my job. Well if that's what your asking me, and this of course all depends on the scenario, then the answer is no.

Yeah, that's what I mean. So you advocate limited democracy...... limited to ten minutes every few years. That's good. That's the "conservative" way. If one really believes in democracy, it has to extend to one's whole life including on the job (which occupies thousands and thousands of more hours of our lives than our current practice of "democracy" does). So in short, this is not really democracy, especially when voting is so manipulated by Parties and their friends. And so in truth, conservatives don't really want democracy any more than political parties do.

What actions or policies could Donald Trump one day take or otherwise support, that you would vocally object to?
