Your citation is for Congress, not the Presidency.

It also does not prevent states from changing their requirements, to include releasing tax returns, for the Presidential or primary candidates on the ballot in their state.

Nor does it prevent Presidential candidates or NOMINEES, ie, not in office yet, from being required to release tax returns.

Which year of Obama's tax returns would you like? His last 12 years worth available online, just google the year, tax return and Obama,
The Clinton's tax returns go back to before Bill was president. Same thing, google year, tax return, Bill or Hillary (they file separately), Clinton.
The Clinton Foundation is required by law to publicly file annually, just like the Trump foundation, that's why she got (*)(*)(*)(*) for maybe possibly twisting arms for her foundation and Trump got (*)(*)(*)(*) for his making illegal donations.

I don't want to see his returns, I doubt I'd understand much of them but the need is for transparency so that we see he puts America first rather than Trump enterprises first. Remember he once said that a candidate should make a profit off his campaign, I fear how much profit he's planning on making off being president.

He did present it, when he ran for the Illinois senate seat and again when he ran for president and the state of Hawaii confirmed it both times.

Now where are the promised tax returns?

The only authorities that have access to them are working for the IRS. Not congress, not the ethics watchdogs, nobody. Only if he is charged with tax fraud or required like when he wanted his gambling license do them become public.

Funny that he'll release them for the gambling commission in NJ but not to be an open president.

What the hell are you talking about? That wasn't my point at all. Are you responding to the wrong person?

The guy said trump was required to release his tax returns. That is false, and I have proven that. There is no requirement to release your tax returns. There is a requirement to prove to be a US citizen to be President, as you cannot obtain a TS/SCI clearance without being one.

Glad I helped clear up your confusion.

No one with any significant business investments will EVER put them in a blind trust. I would be even more straightforward to the press. "No, and no. And no it won't be a conflict of interest. Two different modes of operation between politics and business."

Trump said he would gladly release them so long as Hillary releases all her emails. Do you think Hillary released all her emails, or do you think there will be more? I agree with you, to me it doesn't matter for I would probably not understand them either. I think the reason Trump said that is because of the hypocrisy. Nobody cares that Hillary had her own private server for government documents both declassified, classified, secret, and top secret. This is far more important than Hillary's or Trump's tax returns, yet people still voted for Hillary not caring what she did and didn't do. Despite not showing his tax returns, Americans still voted for him and he won.

I feel like as soon as all Hillary emails are released or put forth by wikileaks, Trump will indeed put up his returns. Whatever the case may be, his returns are rather unimportant compared to everything that is important, and the democrats are not going to be happy when they do see his returns.

The mess left by both Bush and Obama within the middle east has created what I believe a no return, whereas war is imminent. Thus making it all look like Trumps fault. Regardless the most important thing to focus on is not getting in a war that could potentially start WW3. Having said that it is indeed all set up as to go forward.

Perhaps people should quit worrying so much about Trumps returns, and start worrying about their loved ones and food, water, and shelter. But then again they will just say that is not going to happen for America is perfect and nothing will come to destroy her.

You would think that someone choosing to reside in a country for well over a decade with no real plans of returning to the U.S. would direct their energies towards the political corruption and process within their chosen country to live in? It hardly makes any sense to complain about a President, election process or country that clearly will have little to any impact on ones life.

I could understand these empty worries "IF" the DRC was a shining example of equality, lawfulness, Political Perfection, border stability and not one of the top three "MOST" corrupt countries on the planets! I'm going to go out on a limb here but I get the impression that complaining about the U.S. from the Congo doesn't carry the same risks as trying to better the place one lives? Then again here in the U.S. we don't practice removal of body parts for pointing out publically Presidential faults in truth or lies!

Not sure if this type of assault on the U.S. and the people that actually live and pay taxes here is a example of Hypocrisy or Cowardice or both?

Obama did his part, now let's see your hero do his. After all, he gave his word.

Geez, these right wingers sure have their double standards.

Obama didn't "do his part". He did what is required by law. Trump has done the exact same thing. He's done everything required by law. He's your president, get over it.

But your hero gave his word. If he is not man enough to keep his word, then he has no business being in the White House.

Just what are you afraid of - that it will be disclosed that he donated tens of thousands to Planned Parenthood?

Doesn't matter. The same legal principle applies. The qualifications for office cannot be changed without a Constitutional Amendment.

Those laws will be shot down the lowest federal court.

He's your president who told a bald faced lie to you to get elected, that he would present his tax returns. Not stretched the truth, not a lie through omission but an in your face, played you for a chump lie. Does that not bother you?

No one other than the right has suggested that he is required by law to present his tax returns. The constant points are that ethically he should since he refuses to divest his businesses and he made a promise to to so. When we say Obama did his part it's that we have over a decade of his tax returns to verify that he did not make deals as president to enrich himself. I don't trust the founder of Trump university to respect that law and want verification.

The point is that tax returns are not anyone's business. If I were running, I would never release my confidential financial information. There's a reason it's not required by law and never will be.

That's right, he is! So after a little back ground reading on "YOUR" president, it doesn't quite instill much confidence that the DRC or you have any real answers or record of thwarting liars and corruption. Although I must credit you on your wonderful mask of illusion ;)

Maybe Trump will release his tax records right after Obama releases all this college records and actual birth certificate.

I'm not sure sure there never will be a law requiring Presidential candidates to release their taxes. It will only take a couple of states to change their requirements on who can be on the primary ballot to require tax returns to be released to make that happen.

    Extorting someone's privacy. You're a real American.

Cabinet secretaries don't get approved by the if they don't release their tax returns to the vetting committee. It's not extortion of their privacy. If they don't want to release them, they don't have to. The nominee can withdraw their nomination or just not get approved. There was considerable discussion of this with Tim Geithner's, Kathleen Sebelius's, and Tom Daschel's nominations, because they all had some issue with their tax returns.

I've read several articles lately about states changing their election laws, including requiring Presidential candidates, primary or general election, to submit their tax returns. That's not extortion either. Each state has the right to set their own requirements in order to appear on the ballot. If they set that rule, and a candidate doesn't want to release his/her taxed, they don't have to. They just won't appear on that state's ballot. It remains their choice whether the candidate wants to release tax returns or not.

I am a real American. Thanks for noticing.

You're saying "It's okay to invade their privacy because some people already do". What I'm saying is, your financial business is your financial business, not anyone else's. I'm pro-your rights, you are against your rights. I was being sarcastic about that whole American thing.

No one's privacy is being violated. No one is required to run for office. If you choose to run for office, there are requirements. Trump had to fill out a financial form to run. Some are national requirements and some are state requirements. Third party candidates would like federal funding, but there are requirements in order for them to get it, and that has to do with getting 5% of votes in the previous election. It's OK to make regulations. Had anyone challenged releasing tax returns before, like Trump did, there would be regulations in place already. Trump bucked traditional expectations by not releasing his. There is going to be a reaction to that. To think otherwise is to be disappointed.

Despite your projections on me, I'm saying that the states have a right to determine the rules for candidates on the ballot in their own state. Are you against a state's right to determine their own rules and regulations on elections, despite requiring the state to pay for the election costs?

The present law says states get to make those determinations. If a candidate doesn't want to release their tax returns, they don't have to do so. They just won't appear on the ballot for that particular state. If that is a predominately Democratic state and the candidate doesn't think they will win that state, appearing on the ballot or not, might not change the national election's outcome. It might change the primary's outcome though, so the regulation for releasing tax returns will probably be aimed at primary elections, but that's JMHO.

I'm not against anyone's rights. I am for everyone's rights.

You made the statement that tax returns will never be required and I simply refuted your post.

If you want to know what I believe, ask me. I am not saying it is OK to invade anyone's privacy. If you choose to run for office, then you choose to follow the regulations of the states… and states DO have the right to require what they want.

Yes, you're justifying invading someone's privacy in exchange for public service. It's almost blackmail. Couldn't be more anti-American. Any American should be able to run for the people without having to violate their personal privacy. Anyone.
