It's considerably more than 60% want him to release his returns.
    From ABC news
"Views on tax returns shift decidedly away from Trump’s position. Seventy-four present overall say he should release his tax returns; that includes 49 percent of his own supporters, as well as nearly all of Clinton’s (94 percent) and 83 percent of those who had another preference, or none.

The number who favor release of the documents is higher than it was in two related questions in ABC/Post polls during the election campaign. In May, 64 percent said he should release the returns, and in September, 63 percent said he was not justified in withholding them.

In one key support group for Trump, noncollege-educated white men, 58 percent say he should release the tax returns; that rises to 81 percent of college-educated white women and 88 percent of nonwhites. By another measure, 69 percent in the red states -- those Trump won -- say he should release these records, as do 81 percent in Clinton’s blue states.

Forty-one percent, overall, say they “care a lot” about Trump releasing the records -- 47 percent in the blue states, 36 percent in the states Trump won. At a news conference last week, Trump said: “The only one that cares about my tax returns are the reporters.” As far as other Americans, he said: “I don’t think they care at all.”"

The Courts would see that as an end-run around the Constitution and the requirements and qualifications for office.

With all due respect, that is simply speculation.

If a Presidential candidate doesn't want to release their taxes, they won't have to. They just won't appear on ballots in states that do require it.

I'm not dodging anything. I've just reported to this forum, with links to back me up, that several states are presently crafting laws to require Presidential candidates to release their tax return or not be in the ballot in that state.

    - - - Updated - - -

I don't know and don't care. The point is, the American people have the right to know if a Presidential candidate has foreign interests that could bring a conflict of interest and to know that their President isn't a tax cheat.

We're not going to agree on this issue and I don't care to parse the argument down to minutia.

I've already addressed my thoughts on this issue in this thread. I applaud those states that are looking into adjusting their laws to require Presidential candidates to release their tax returns, so that we are not faced with the possibility of a President that is compromised and has conflicts of interest, in the future.

This is much bigger than Trump.

I respect your opinion on the subject, but we do not agree on how important this topic is to the American people. The people overwhelmingly and in a bipartisan way, want the President to release his taxes and don't want to face this situation again.

Thank you. I have been reading some things elsewhere that indicates the percentage of Americans that want tax returns submitted by Presidential candidates north of 70%. I first quoted the 60% number from one source, but there are more and more surveys on it that are coming out. This is not going away, and that is a good thing.

I hope people read your post and notice that it is bipartisan in support. I'm having a hard time getting people to see that here.

Right back at you, if you want candidates to release their tax returns work for a law that calls for it. Unless a position is 100% for or against it's partisan in some form.

You will never get a 100% response on ANY surgery or vote - I think the record for any voter agreement was the 1967 Referendum in Australia on Indigenous rights and the constitution where the yes vote was carried by 90.77% of voters

    That wasn't my point.
    Partisan
    noun
    1. an adherent or supporter of a person, group, party, or cause, especially a person who shows a biased, emotional allegiance.

Nothing in the definition says percentage.

I said you should work for a law that matters to you, exactly because a this one is already in the works. I have already posted links to several states that are in the process of crafting laws to require the release of tax returns by Presidential candidates to be on the ballot. Maybe you haven't read all my posts in this thread?

Requesting Presidential candidates release tax returns or not appearing on the ballot has the numbers and motivated leadership. That's just fact. I freely admit my belief is that solid blue states will be the first states to enact a law to that effect. They have the motivated leadership to push it forward and the best chance of getting it enacted- very much like Republicans are talking about repealing Obamacare, because they have the numbers and the best chance to make it happen, when they haven't had that ability before. So, in that way, it may appear partisan, but you don't get to 74% support without being bipartisan.

To address your 100% comment: If there is an issue that the American people agree on 100%, I've yet to see it. However, I do see things that a majority of Americans agree on, and in a bi-partisan way. Laws get enacted when large percentages of people want it to happen. This is one of them, to the tune of 70%. (That's also linked in this thread, but in a response to one of my posts... If you decide to look back in the thread, they're there.)

And back to my point which your scenario does not avoid.

You can't by law force someone to make public a federally protected document, requiring them to do so in order to have their name on the ballot would violate that. Beyond that the candidate is not elected in the state election anyway, the party slare of electors are elected.

Then why are you so desperate to see them.

That is already in is FEC Financial Disclosure Form and has to be updated with the office of ethics every year he is in office and if he criminally violated the tax code that would be public knowledge.

So AGAIN what do expect to find in his tax return

Ummm... obvious question but (*)(*)(*)(*) it you clearly couldn't think of it, why SHOULD he respond? Who gives a (*)(*)(*)(*) about some internet petition? Have those ever actually accomplished anything?

I could care less if he does or doesn't. It won't change anything whatsoever so again I ask the question that you dodged from by asking another question. WHY should he?

No one is FORCING anyone to do anything. A candidate can choose to not release their tax return if they wish. They just won't appear on the ballot in states that have that requirement.

I've already stated in this thread why I believe a candidate should release his/ her tax return.

    It's a Slippery Slope.

After tax returns, what's next? Scholastic records? Health and medical records? The list could go on and on.

Medical records already are released. It's how we knew Hillary Clinton was taking a certain thyroid medication. Trump's was released too, and the news made a big deal of the way it was phrased.

The whole thing about tax records is that it could expose potential conflicts of interest and tax fraud. Those are two issues that matter when it comes to being in position to spend tax money.

Back when the founding fathers set the requirements, we didn't have income tax. As times change, at some point in the future, we may need to add other requirements. I don't see it as a slippery slope, but I respect your right to hold that opinion.

I know you're trying to be cute with it but yes you are what a law requiring the release ofbthe tax forms which are protected. And again they can take the name off the ballot and just have the party's slate of candidates.

No, I'm not trying to be cute. Presently, there are several states in the process of crafting changes to their ballot access laws that will require the release of tax returns before names appear on the ballot. Google it, if you don't believe me or haven't already clicked on the links I have posted. There are also laws being considered to require state electors to vote for a candidate that released tax returns. I have no doubt these laws will be challenged in court, but they will find a way to require tax returns to be released eventually, if not at first. Candidates releasing tax returns matters to most Americans, and there are motivated lawyers working on making that happen now.

The release of SOME medical records is purely voluntarily. The health of a President important. You already have the financial disclosure forms they file.
