This won't be news to anyone well versed in science. But there will be a few changes to the Earth over a long period of time. First, the Earth's spin is slowing down, and will one day stop. Making one side of the planet "dark". Second, the moon is getting farther away from the Earth. Every year, the moon gets an inch and a half farther away from the Earth. One day, it will escape the pull of Earth's gravity and we will no longer have a moon. This will mean the end of tides, and I'm not really sure what else. Third, the sun will get hotter as it ages and eventually Earth will be outside the habitable zone of our solar system. We will have to relocate to Mars or elsewhere. I suspect most people who visit this section already know all of this, but it may be news to others. While none of this will happen any time soon, it's still fascinating to ponder the future. I always wonder what is in store for humanity. Thread started at Forum 4 Politics on 04-08-2012 07:44 AM
Incorrect. The sun will long be gone before the earth stops spinning. When the earth finally stops, the whole thing will be dark.
As the sun begins to deplete its fuel supply to a certain point, it will become a red giant and, in time, could become larger than the orbit of the earth. In other words it will probably swallow and incinerate the earth. Not exactly dark. The sun will outlive the earth for billions of years.
I have been for several years . And though it only delays matters , I should live several billion years according to these new people I have met .
