Israel killed more Palestinian civilians in 2014 than in any other year since the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip began in 1967, a UN report has said.

Israel’s activities in the Gaza Strip, West Bank and East Jerusalem resulted in the deaths of 2,314 Palestinians and 17,125 injuries, compared with 39 deaths and 3,964 injuries in 2013, according to the annual report (pdf) by the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The conflict in Gaza in July and August was largely responsible for the dramatic increase in fatalities. It claimed the lives of 2,220 Gazans, of whom 1,492 were civilians, 605 militants and 123 unverified.

More than 11,000 people were injured and about 500,000 Palestinians were internally displaced at the height of the conflict. About 100,000 remain so. There was also a sharp rise in fatalities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, where 58 Palestinians were killed and 6,028 injured – the highest number of fatalities in incidents involving Israeli forces since 2007 and the highest number of injuries since 2005.

Most of the incidents took place in the second half of the year, following the abduction and murder of Mohammed Abu Khdeir, which led to daily riots and protests in East Jerusalem.

Khdeir, a 16-year-old Palestinian, was kidnapped and killed in July, following the abduction and murder of three Israeli teenagers the previous month...

Good reason they should stop their war in Israel, they are losing in terms of citizen deaths. Maybe they should seek peace else stop putting their offensive weapons in civilian occupied areas don't you think?

 

I guess that is how it goes when Hamas protects its weapons caches with civilians.

 

Just what Palestinian terror groups want...dead Palestinians so they can get p.r. points.
Maybe if they didn't launch rockets into Israel from hospitals, schools, apartment buildings....

 

Hamas should fire their rockets from open fields then, instead of from the rooftops of schools and outside hospitals.

 

What that report doesn't say is that before Israel bombs, they call and drop flyers warning civilians to move that they are about to bomb that section. What they also don't say in that report is Hamas tells the people to stay. Hamas wants a high death count so they can use it as propaganda.

 

Where the hell are they going to move? They're located in a 140 square mile strip of land with no way out.

You think Israel is bombing all 140 square miles of it? Some parts of Israel is only about 12 miles wide.

 

Yes, they should all agree to put down their arms...then they can be forced from their homes at gunpoint by Israeli settlers like in the West Bank.

And you think Hamas has no other cover to fire on Israel but hospitals, apartment buildings and schools?

 

I don't agree with Jewish settlements in the West Bank. But don't think Israel is forcing Pals out of their homes and taking them over. They are building settlements usually down the road from Palestinian settlements.

 

For Liberals that are suppose to be so much more informed than Fox viewers, it seems like many of you don't know exactly what is going on in Palestine and Israel.

This isn't very liberal or Christian of me, but, while the loss of life is to be mourned, I really don't have a problem with it in this situation. And carpet bombing the entirety of that worthless patch of sand might not really be a bad idea.

There are some places Pals build settlements that Israel has made them move. But the same is true with some Jewish settlements, e the government tore down and made them move. The biggest problem is that the government keeps building more and more settlements in the West Bank which I don't agree with.

 

Sometimes people need to be killed. Don't launch rockets at Israel.

Israel has violated countless international laws, by confiscating Arab private land and using it for civilian-only settlements.

even Israel's Supreme Court has condemned this practice and declared it illegal.

 

How is it genocide when every time Israel bombs Gaza, they tell them where they are going to bomb and ask them to move? Israel doesn't bomb them unless they are attacked first.
