    Yep. Coal and subsidies. Oh, and zero emissions regulations which are enforced.

    Yes. We simply can’t compete because our emissions controls and unwillingness to use “dirty” coal technology price us out of the business.

    like saying 2x4's are a product vs calling them a resource... trees

    luckily trees can be replenished faster than oil or coal or other natural resources

    2x4’s don’t need to go through the smelting process. The tree is cut and milled. Turning ore into a steel I-beam is a much more involved process.

    We can smelt steel here in the US. We should smelt steel here in the US. We won't smelt steel here in the US so long as we can pay other people to do it for less than Americans would do it for. Which is fine until we either don't have enough jobs or until the people who smelt steel decide not to sell it to us anymore ...or until we decide that supporting exploitive third world labor is immoral.

    Tarriffs provide some incentive for manufacturers to bring manufacturing back home where more Americans can get paid well to make more stuff for Americans.

    ?????? Biden cut the tariffs placed by Trump on Chinese steel, in 2021. Hes putting them back for the election.
