They were talking about the minimum wage which he later clarified was too high because it is an arbitrary number set by the government. That has nothing to do with middle class wages. And in fact the lower incomes wages rose faster than the top wages due to full employment and capital investment.

No he wasn’t talking about minimum wage, which he claimed he wanted to raise. Min wage isn’t making us uncompetitive which was they he said wages are too high.
