See, I notice that you're not defending Biden on this - not that I blame you, there IS no defense against what Biden said. I mean, seems to me that if there's a virus originating from elsewhere, the last thing you'd wanna do is allow traveling from other countries here, especially since everyone else out there is shutting down just about any event out there. Heck, the nursing home that takes care of my mother-in-law just went on lockdown and there's no visitors allowed until further notice so I guess people are taking every precaution. Why Quid Pro joe30330 wants no travel bans is a bit of a puzzler. I mean sure, the easy answer is dementia because Trump's response seems to be a pretty sane one. Which is odd, since he usually doesn't sound sane, but he's right and Biden is wrong here.

This virus has been spread most effectively by people on planes, who are travelling in a declared and legal fashion (except for those on cruis ships, once again, not really a hotbed of illegal iùmigrants). I don't know if it was you or some other poster who was trying to argue that last year 1200 illegal chinese immigrants had been arrestedlast year "some of them" coming through mexico, trying to link the virus to illegal immigration, but here is the truth: 3 000 000 people travel from china to the states every year in a legal and declared fashion.

 

How anyone could vote for someone that admits they will completely ignore tbe medical experts in a time like this and continue to allow open borders is beyond the pale.

 

You need to respect borders to close them.

But I don't think being a globalist and being okay with shutting down borders during extraordinary situations where it even makes sense scientifically to do it have to be mutually exclusive.

There is actually a large Chinese population in northern Mexico.

Many are actually the descendants of the workers that built California rail systems.

One thing that strikes you in TJ, Ensenada, and Mexicali is the large number of Chinese restaurants.

 

California is shutting down its colleges and many schools-the response seems worse than the virus.

But I agree with the few non-conservatives on this thread that Joe is likely wrong here... Many countries are implementing some form of travel restrictions and the US should be no different... As long as the restrictions are universal and not limited to Trump's xenophobic lists...

 

Correct, but importantly, legal travel can be stopped and if necessary those that entered legally can be traced. In this instance those that entered just pre-corona have been traced and quarantined where necessary. Through these contact traces others get quarantined or cleared.
