Elon is trying to get his advertisers back.

Meet the new bo$$, same as the old bo$$.

I've seen this. It's amazing the need the media has to rationalize this as a mental illness or at least report it as such.

It's been reported that Kanye has mental illness for many years. This isn't something they just came up with.

I think it's 100% clear that his mental illness is why he is saying the things he's saying. He might actually believe them, but the reason he is SAYING them, is because of mental illness. That isn't a defense of what he is saying, but we also shouldn't ignore that fact.

The people interviewing him are worse than Kanye. That is not a defense of Kanye, but he would be a tree falling in the forest without a platform.

Elon Musk's version of free speech seems, well, selective.

How does one do that? Seems to me that when two sides can’t agree upon a shared reality that compromise and unity become impossible. Seems to me that the two sides at best can come to understand the other sides reasoning then each rejects the reasoning of the other.

I wish that were true but I doubt that it is. Can you recommend a book written by a sociologist or communications expert that makes your case backed by an objective body of research? I just finished reading my 2nd book on communication and have read another 8 books on other aspects of sociology, none of which support your “cannot spread due to the constant open challenge in the field of ideas” claim.

Adequately refuting it assumes that the people who believe in it are doing so for logical reasons. Racism/anti-semitism/sexism/etc is never logical, it's emotional, and usually the sign of a lack of intellect, not an abundance.

    Interesting thought,

The fewer restrictions the better, IMHO.

West's post, while insidious, is still his opinion and should be considered free speech.

While I completely condemn West's post, he should be free to make a complete ******* out of himself for the world to see. I have no idea why he's so well known and popular. I will say this; I saw his interview with Tucker Carlson and that was the first time I ever heard his voice, and he came across as someone who is logical with a degree of intelligence.

However, his latest stunts that I've been reading about make me think he's crackers or worse. Do I care what happens to him? No, he can buy and sell me, so why would I have any concern about what floats his idiotic boat when he surely doesn't care what floats mine.

it shows it's easy to bash twitter for being against free speech when you don't own it

Please clarify, what is the risk?

I feel that free speech should not be regulated by chronically offended and selectively outraged individuals and special interest groups.

    Thanks,

You seem to have a problem with distinguishing hate speech on a private platform vs. free speech to keep the government off your back.

seems the right had that problem, they thought private companies had to rebroadcast what they said or it was against their free speech rights, they were wrong

I think Musk can do whatever he wants, it's his company

do you still think twitter can't?

Perhaps you are right, but I am not sure. I like to read books on psychology and sociology, perhaps I should look for a book that addresses this issue.

The risk of suppressing speech is that it can drive people underground where resentment and a feeling of concerns not being taken seriously can lead to violence becoming the next language spoken. On the flip side, openly allowing antisemitism can bring more people in line with the ideology which can lead to an increase of antisemitic attacks. To argue that more exposure to antisemitism leads to less violence is a claim in need of associated sociological evidence. Do you know of any? In the last two years I have read a dozen books on various aspects of sociology and communication and have yet to see it claimed that exposure to toxic ideologies mitigates the spread of them.

The claims that there was no line were fake news.

KANYE WEST NEWS: Elon Musk tells rapper ‘FAFO’ as he is suspended from Twitter for posting swastika.

'“Who made you the judge,” West fired at the tech billionaire.'

'Musk wrote back “FAFO” – short for “F*** Around and Find Out.”'

'The Twitter suspension and Nazi diatribe on Jones’ show comes after West was recently dumped by Adidas, GAP and Balenciaga over a string of anti-Semitic comments.'

I didn't think that manic-depression, turned a person into a bigot (& still don't). But I wouldn't doubt, that someone decided to go off his meds.
