Leftists Unite!

On this forum I have noticed a significantly large pack of right wingers that seem to stand united in their criticism of our fellow leftists and our ideals. I am left wondering just how large the left wing contingent is on this forum. In response to this question I have created this thread. If You are on the left I ask you to post your general political affiliation so that many of us can identify others with similar beliefs and we can hopefully organize to spread progressive ideas.

I believe it's a sign of the times. If you check out the polls, more people identify with Conservatism, even if it's just slightly right of center.

 

LOL, IMO it's not that complicated. On internet forums, conservatives form alliances while liberals form war parties. There is no cohesion among the left. It's every man for himself. You're fighting a losing battle here.

 

Getting the bitter, perpetually outraged, forever victimized left organized behind a singular idea is not unlike herding cats.

I'm all for leftists uniting. That way decent, freedom loving people will know who their enemies are.

 

Biggest problem with Leftism in any form is that its ideas have failed time and again. Cuba, Vietnam, Cambodia, Zimbabwe, the former USSR. Most, if not all of the Liberal states here in the US are either bankrupt or on the verge because of the inordinate amount of spending on welfare programs that benefit nobody and have created an entitlement mentality.

That's usually true, because we believe in 'to each his own' (the lib version of keeping Gmt. out of our lives), and we don't need to seek approval from within a small group of fellow haters. And, one reason why it usually takes too long to muster the troops when fighting back the enemy, but the occupywallstreet.org uprising is a sudden and welcome exception. Let's see if it can stay calm and pure long enuf to become effective.

It's always a corrupted version of a vision that can easily be decried by detractors. It can be had, in small doses, but here will be no paradise for the masses. There's always a con faction that ruins it.

No, we just think the less wealthy are doing what unwashed masses have always done throughout history, tear down those above them in juvenile ignorant jealousy.

In 2004 when banks were handing out money hand over fist to anyone who asked I never once heard anything about rich people pissing on poor people. It wasn't until the loans started defaulting and people started saying "Where is the money you owe me?" that suddenly the rich were evil and greedy.

You mean Leftism as practised by Stalin and Mao, which left millions murdered or starved to death?

I wonder what these citizens thought about the Left's commitment to free speech? The Left's only commitment, under Stalin (and for some time thereafter) was to send any dissident to Siberia or summary execution, and in the case of Mao, starve them to death.

 

As you can tell by how the right-wingers descended on this thread like a group of vultures, the left/liberal/progressive element of this forum is significantly outnumbered.

Believe it or not, this forum has pretty much always leaned right, but not always by this much. Over the past couple of years, quality posters of the left-persuasion as well as a fair-sized number of moderates decided to part ways with the forum for one reason or another leaving behind a small contingent determined to muck their way through the endless drivel posted by the righties. Occasionally you find a pearl but most of the time you end up logging off and running to take a shower in an attempt to physically scrape some of the stink off.

This doesn't mean that all the forum right-wingers are bad but just like IRL political matters, generally the worst - as represented by the most vocal - become the voice and face of a faction that has seen better days.
