Fair enough, war or completely failed and corrupt governments.

Of course they do. They also throw out what amounts to, guess how much? We all know its a big number. Some of it is logistics, which is sad and the other is regulations, which is NOT. I worked with a large chain in FL, Publix, on their donation drive one year. Spoke about this issue. They throw out TONS of food that could be donated because they could be sued/fined if there's any chance of it being questionable. They would love to give it away if they could.

My brother's friend and neighbor is the former CEO of Kroger. They supply food banks everywhere.. The onions that are too small or potatoes etc.. They also donate tons of canned goods, meats like ham.. none of which is out of date.

It all boils down to not making kids you can't afford. It's as true on a national level as it is on a personal level. If you live in a drought and famine infested hell hole, you have no business making kids who will surely suffer. If you live in America and are a lazy degenerate, you have no business making kids and expecting others to financially support it. Accidents happen, but people need to be responsible for their actions.

America needs to take note and do whatever is necessary to keep agriculture producing food. We should expand FFA and teach kids how to garden, and can fruits and vegetables. They are becoming lost skills to the general public. We need to quit wasting our crops on ethynol. E85 gas costs 10% less, is 10% less efficient, and is therefore a wasted crop. We could grow food instead.

At the same time we need to quit taking every sob story immigrant we can into this country at our expense. Immigrants are welcome as long as they can support themselves, assimilate to our culture, and/or bring skills we need. The Earth/America can't support an unlimited population. We can't control world policies and we can't enforce population mandate controls like China, but we don't have to enable deadbeat parents and invite people looking for a handout into our country.

Americans who live in cities can't garden. Those who live in small towns or rural areas still garden and can.

The famine in Ethiopia originally resulted from transferring too much land from local food production to overseas cash crops because the regime in power needed the money. It continues onward because the regime has discovered that food is a really effective way to punish its enemies and reward it's friends. Sadly the regime in Ethiopia isn't the only African regime that has taken this idea to heart. And you are also some what prescient with your earlier statement when you implied that it is really difficult to get everyone fed when the powers that be see food as the ultimate political weapon against their enemies.

I hadn't thought of that.. How purposeful and awful

I know that in Zimbabwe the white farmers owned all the arable land and grew crops for export while the natives lived in the company.. and now look at Zimbabwe.

Please note Mugabe didn't make things better. But he's gone now too so maybe things can get better. At least when the Eurofarmers were running things everyone had enough to eat. Under Mugabe everyone more or less starved as often as not. I prefer a system in which everyone is prosperous and starvation is a choice people with eating disorders make.

Oh I know Mugabe didn't make things better .. Their infrastructure has been in shambles for a decade... including farm to market roads.

Most people in suburbs don’t garden. My in laws kept a 1/2 acre garden until he was 85. His dad was a farmer and he had his Dad’s tractor, but most of his neighbors don’t garden. You can’t deny that it’s a disappearing skill.

To be fair, a food poisening epidemic among the homeless would be very costly to society.

Overall, I sympathize more with your sentiment than my own counter, but its something to be considered. We wouldn't turn them away at the hospitals, and would end up absoarbing the medical costs.

Though to allow them to starve instead isnt the answer either.

Arm them with suitcase nukes, rather than food. Let them set one off as an example. Their oppressors will crap their pants and offer to serve them dinner while they bathe in milk.

Some way decades back said that the three curse of Africa were famine, disease, and tribalism, I'd replace the last with a dearth competent well educated leaders.
