'double heavy' What will they dream up next? Still it must be true because the BBC says so . . . http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-40521445
Unfortunately for you there's no cure for gullibility. Although sometimes getting older and wiser can be a cure for it. Not always though; some people are born to believe everything they hear, and never grow out of it.
Science illiterates and conspiracy theorists often opine on things they know little if anything about.
I put it to you, Cosmo (et al) that if you didn't soak up like a dry sponge everything that NASA gets published in the burgeoning number of 'science' magazines, you'd be as 'illiterate' as I am?? Does it never occur to you that you're being duped, and worse than that, talked down to like children? How about this for example . . . "Mercury mission ready for 'pizza oven' The two satellites that make up the BepiColombo mission to Mercury were presented to the media on Thursday." I mean, what the hell bearing does any of that have to a pizza oven? And for what reason would they use so many inverted commas in the nonsense they put out other than to trivialise, or attract juvenile interest? And note the link . . . http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-40513818 The good 'ol BBC again - always first with the fake news.
What about this seems so fishy to you? I tend to keep an open mind to conspiracy theories, what with how often they turn out to be true. But I gotta know- what are you basing your suspicion on?
Simply that I can tell when I'm being fooled. Always have been able to, and always will. It's a bit like recognising body language, but in literary form?
But why? What would be the point? What do scientists have to gain by claiming to have found a new particle?
They don't. They are exceedingly cautious with these announcements. He's trolling and has no valid debate to refute the findings. He's not even using emotional reasoning.
For this simple reason - one branch of the scientific fraternity has accidentally discovered that this never-ending 'search for the meaning of life and the universe' is a highly lucrative job for life but without actually working, and that they can, with great ease, bamboozle the more gullible among us by saying any ol' nonsense they like certain in the knowledge that it will be believed without question nor challenge, thus perpetuating this newly-found cushy and secure lifestyle unto retirement. I don't blame them - I'd climb aboard the bandwagon too if I were one of them. So far as my 'trolling' is concerned - my purpose is to expose the pretentious among us in their self-delusion ('arrogance' some would argue?) that they 'understand', when really they're naively submitting themselves to being well and truly conned. 'But why do they do this?' I hear you cry. Well I can only think that for reasons best known to themselves they want to believe it, but get a bit shirty when someone like me tries to enlighten them. But all I get in return for my public-spiritness is to constantly be accused of ignorance. Think 'shooting the messenger'?
I take it you have never taken a science class or watched scientists at work. You definitely have never seen a scientist's paycheck. There are a lot easier ways to make a whole heck of a lot more money. But what concerns me most is this distrust in science. Our whole society is built on science. At least two of this country's founding fathers were scientists. The Internet, the computer, the smartphone and/or whatever else you are using to read this are products of science. The fact that you survived childhood is thanks to science. The car you drive, the food you eat, the light in your house are all products of science. To sit there and claim that scientists make up stuff out of arrogance and self-delusion is not only ignorant, it is hypocritical.
Only in this specific branch of 'science'. You obviously have zero understanding of where I'm coming from, and I have yet another accusation of 'ignorant'. I dunno - y'just can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped! And what 'the car I drive' has to do with deep space exploration I don't know!!
No it's impossible to understand such foolish ramblings esp if your background is scientific. This thread isn't about deep space exploration and the car you drive uses a computer among other things which is why it was mentioned. If you don't understand field theory and some particle physics that's ok. You can still use electrons and such. But it's not ok to debunk without telling us why it is all wrong and then ignore your use of the particle physics to type on the internet and drive down the street in your car. But then you don't really care about any of that because you're smarter than the ordinary troll. But you're still trolling. Appears that's ok here so I know what to do.
What makes particle physics any different from any other branch of science? What makes you the authority? Also, physics is the same whether you are talking about a car or a space probe.
