As years go by and the core of the Republicans die out, millenials will reach the age where they start voting. Millenials are very liberal. I'd give it 5-10 years. The US will be one of the most liberal countries in the world during this part of the century. Don't worry liberals. It's the republicans who should worry and Trump is their last chance. The next decade will belong to liberalism. Hurrah.
All Trump has to do is get the economy moving at above Obama's average of 1.8%. This should be very easy with the Democrats out of power in Congress. Even Jimmy Carter did better.
Hmm, over 8 years ago the same was said and guess what? Didn't happen. Like many young and liberal, they tend to grow up.
Liberalism in America died a very long time ago. We know this because some of the most illiberal characters imaginable are held up as the standard of liberalism in America.
Liberalism will grow and fade in cycles. Eventually the government will become so large and in debt that it will come crashing down under its own weight. It will be a beautiful sight.
Liberalism isn't going away anytime soon. But this election we had really wasn't about Republicans vs Democrats. It was about a right-leaning Independent vs an establishment Democrat. If the race had been 4-way - Clinton (D), Jeb Bush or Rubio or Kasich (R), Trump (I), and Sanders (I) - I think the (R) and the (D) would have ended up in 3rd and 4th place, and one of the Independents would have won. This phenomenon is what is really on the rise, in my opinion.
Eh...stick to Canadian politics. You don't have a good grasp of what's going on in the states if you think the last election was about conservative vs liberal.
Where you might be right is in the fact that every action calls for a reaction: The more Trump will make it "us vs them", the more opposition and dis-union it will create, while reinforcing his opponents - those some people call, wrongly, "liberals" (some of which are in fact more less liberal than Trump himself).
Yes, unfortunately liberalism isn't dead. There will always be people who want a nanny state to care for their every need. That way they're required to do less thinking.
Yep they pay taxes and pay attention when leftist politicians screw over the nation and then one day they realize that they are actually either Centrists or Conservatives. The Left does this to themselves.
We , had royal we, need to be careful about using one event and one period of time to predict the future. I am old enough to remember that after Goldwater's defeat in 64 done thought the GOP was dead. What happened is that Barry showed Reagan that the South can be turned using opposition to civil rights and he could get rid of Jimmy. After Nixon there were voices again that said the GOP is dead, sobwhat happened? An over reaction and Jimmy Carter happened. The Trump phenomenon is not that simple. It is indeed an over reaction to Obama but it us also a result of the money that groups such as Koch brothers poured into getting state districts realigned and interfering with elections at the state senate and house levels. Will this keep the GOP in place firca long time? Yes. Will that be permanent? Probably not. We should not get top comfortable as thecClinton woman found out.
1.8%???? Try this.... https://www.treasury.gov/resource-c.../PublishingImages/20120229_EssentialEcon2.jpg And that is with the republicans dragging their feet and slamming the door for 8 years!
After the Obama administration refused to go after Lerner and Hillary, there isn't much I believe coming from them. In fact I wouldn't believe a word out of their mouths if their collective tongues cam notarized. Now for something from a disinterested third party.
Actually, I do tend to worry if what I saw on youtube (after the election) is representative. If so, then how is that a good thing?
Yes. What's the quote? If you are not a liberal at 25, you have no heart; if you are not a conservative at 35, you have no brain. It's just the nature of things. People tend to become more conservative once they have things they wish to conserve... Unless we can get things under control, I fear you may be right. Not millennials so much as younger voters. That's normal. We'll see if liberalism has anything to offer people besides those living in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, and San Francisco. Exactly. The jury is out. As you say, we'll see what the future brings...
