Did you know that in the south, we call "pop" "coke"? So the convo goes like this: "You wanna coke?" "Yeah." "What kind?" "Orange." I have never, ever heard a soft drink referred to in the South as a "pop." Occasionally we'd get northeners who moved in to the neighborhood who would offer us a "pop." "A what?" "A pop." "What's a pop?" "You know, a soft drink, like a Pepsi?" "Oh, you mean a coke?" "We don't have any cokes." "I thought you said you had Pepsi?"
I feel too sorry for calves to eat knowingly eat veal. I'd rather kill myself slowly drinking poisonous cokes.
Yes, I know that. I was making a joke about the southern tendency of the 50's to refer to all soft drinks as "cokes." It's a regional idiosyncrasy. People in south Louisiana say "get down" when you mean "get out." If they pull into a parking lot with you, the driver will say, "I'm going to run in here for a minute. You wanna get down or stay in the car?" It's a bad English translation from the old French language, which also causes them to say weird things like "save" when they mean "put away," for example, "It's time to do do [sleep, from dormir], ya'll save your toys." If you say, "nobody talks like that except Cajuns," they get offended.
Lol! Yeah, all parts of the country have their own lingo, own expressions of just about everything When I was a teenager, I lived in the south....Alabama for about 1/2 a yr. having come from the midwest. That was quite a strange, but delightful experience w/my new Alabama friends, who had never met a 'damn Yankee' before and often asked me why I talked so fast. I'd ask them why they talked so slow....they found me fascinating and I found them fascinating. I grew up w/'pop'.....occasionally 'soda'....now I call it 'rotgut'. I tho't I'd have to go thru rehab to get off of Pepsi...... - - - Updated - - - Lol! I like living in Alabama. I often joke about the food. You see...after the Civil war they had to learn to live with less. That is why cornbread and butter beans are so popular. For years they had little to eat. That is why ribs and lesser cuts of meat are so popular.
You took the words right out of my mouth. I don't know how my wife makes it, but she can do it equally well in the oven or the microwave. I love that woman.
