The First Lady takes a stand in Saudi Arabia. Kudos to her.....for once. http://news.yahoo.com/michelle-obama-navigates-limits-women-saudi-arabia-192549108.html
The press is completely stupid on this.. Western women do not cover their hair or wear an Abaya.. That has NEVER been a requirement. They dress modestly.
So did Barbara Walters.. They probably didn't know any better. I went to Arabia as a guest of the royal family and Prince Salman asked us NOT to wear a headscarf or abaya.
Guides to Saudia Arabia say the women (non-foreigners) ARE expected to cover hair... who to believe...
If its like Dubai you can get by without your hair covered but your arms better be covered... I guess the bare arm would be to much for those savages they would have to rape that particular women or Allah would be mad or something. My wife had a chance to work in Dubai when she worked for NECC. She was told to have her arms covered at ALL times in Public ( its quite warm there ) and absolutely NO signs of public affection. Not even holding hands. I cant expect is better in Jolly ol SA.
Good call, Michelle. For the first time in my life, I'm proud of Michelle Obama. lol I'm kidding. I think her Let's Move agenda is a noble and worthy cause.
No they aren't... back in the late 1970s there were many newcomers in the kingdom and they started wearing abayas and covering their hair because they didn't know any better.
They knew enough to understand they could very well get stoned, raped, beheaded if they made the fatal mistake of thinking everything would be hunky-dory and wander to the wrong places.
Nope.. I lived in Arabia nearly two decades and NONE of the American women wore abayas of covered their hair.. I have been back and my brothers have been back to visit .. Western women do not cover up.. I met with Salman and Abdullah and so did other American women.. NOBODY covered their hair.. ALL wore western dress.
Hellooooo! This is NOT new subject matter for Michelle in general and in she has spoken specifically LOCALES around the world. She just happens to be saying it in SAUDI ARABIA. I wonder if LAURA BUSH dared take down 'Bandar Bush's' country's misogyny to his face!
I'll take your word for it, as it is the first I've seen it. Cute though that you took this opportunity to bash the Bush's. Just can't help yourself can you? I send a kudo to Michelle, and you bash Bush. You are becoming predictable.
