"In 2019, the U.S. federal government ran a simulation of a global influenza pandemic. A draft report on the effort, published earlier this year by The New York Times, pointed to a host of flaws in the simulated response that now appear prescient as the country continues to grapple with the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. But one crucial element appears missing: No one contemplated that a major national news source would try to stymie the response -- or that the outlet could convince the president to take its side against the government’s public health experts.

That’s what Fox News did this year. The right-wing network has promoted coronavirus misinformation an estimated 13,551 times on its weekday programs over the course of the pandemic. And its lies had a deadly impact."
    https://www.mediamatters.org/fox-news/misinformer-year-fox-news

The article is chock full of links to factual supporting evidence for the reason why Faux deserves the (dubious) award. https://www.mediamatters.org/fox-ne...ting-propaganda-machine-thats-hurting-america

Honestly, due to the influence they have over their large audience they deserve it every year.

The article will go unchallenged despite being dismissed by conservatives here. Dismissed because Trump's minions have been taught to respond reflexively to MM. Unchallenged because of an inability to refute what it says without resorting to falsehoods.

    Misinformer of the Year... OP.

    mediametters, talkingpointsmemo, huffpost, etc. etc.

The only misinformation about COVID1984 is the obscene, deadly crimes of hiding 1. Its specific, purposeful origins in China; 2. Its low death rates; 3. the utter fraud and inaccuracy of using tests not designed to diagnose illness in the healthy; 4. the counterproductive results of forcing people to block their airways with dirty underwear; 5. the ineffectiveness of prior vaccines against emergent strains; 6. the dire, real damage of lockdowns and other dehumanizing human rights violations; 7. the self-interest of a gov-edu-union-contractor-grantee-trial lawyer-MSM Complex Aristocracy Uniparty and its giant corrupt corporate clients; and finally 8. the mountains of lies about COVID1984 as a cause of death when the government, MSM and the rest of the Complex are purposefully incenting those lies.

I’ve been meaning to ask a conservative a few questions. Based on your post I’m guessing you’re a fan of the book “1984” yes? Who are your three favorite characters? Could you give me a detailed synopsis of the book in your own words? What do you think Eric Arthur Blair, an outspoken democratic socialist, was trying to say? What is your favorite quote from the book?

I hope @Lee Atwater doesn’t mind a slight derailment. I think he would enjoy your responses as much as I will.

(Bonus points if you don’t have to Google any of this.)

Whatever the above gibberish means, I would probably disagree based on the quality of your other posts to this forum so far.

I'm not a conservative, have read 1984 a couple times over the years, not interested in your pop quiz (but you NEA types sure stick out like a sore thumb here in so many ways, jeezus, you are not conducting a class holding a grade book over cowed students' heads on this forum). My favorite LW authoritarian cautionary tale is Koestler's Darkness at Noon, far less florid than 1984, have recommended it here many times, and though I reread it once a year or so, won't be taking any pop quizzes on that one either.

And I could care less what OP thinks is topical or not in their typical far left partisan-sourced thread. The most rabid far RW blog, maybe even Stormfront or something similar, is more credible than mediamatters.

I just see a lot of Cons making callbacks to 1984 without knowing anything about it. I suspected you were yet another. You didn’t prove wrong.

Edit: Correction. You did say you’re not a Con. You must be a libertarian, huh?

Nice dodge, teach. School teachers, retired, still teaching, school bureaucrats, et. al., are in no position to instruct or quiz me or anyone else here, especially those of us who work or worked in -any- facet of the private sector. My political orientation is Nunya, and utterly irrelevant to this thread. You'd need to take a pop quiz on the Federalist Papers and Jeffersonian politics to demonstrate your understanding of it anyway, and I wouldn't condescend to administer such because that would make me an even bigger ass than I am already.

Dodge? Did you throw anything my way. Looked like you wormed out a challenge, as is your right, then spouted off about an unrelated book.

There’s few people I meet that are more cagey about their political ideals than righties. Not sure why. Seems silly to me.

If there’s anyone who wasn’t already persuaded that one of our two major political parties has become an enemy, not just of democracy, but of truth, events since the election should have ended their doubts.

"Over the past five days, the White House chief strategist called the press the “opposition party” and threatened to destroy it, the press secretary barred major news outlets from a press gaggle while opening the door to right-wing outlets, and the administration announced it would be giving a plum Oval Office interview to a Breitbart.com reporter considered among the administration’s most sycophantic media boosters.

The Trump administration’s press strategy is clear: delegitimize mainstream news organizations, especially those that produce critical reporting that jeopardizes its efforts, while lifting up unabashed propaganda outlets."

Media Matters for America is a politically left-leaning 501, nonprofit organization which acts as media watchdog for scrutinizing right-leaning media outlets

But we're just supposed to accept their reports as true?

    Yah, nah.

You have no idea how good a handle China had or has on it, because that my friend is a well guarded state secret. And if you trust official Chinese government pronouncements your probably still waiting for your share of the Nigerian lottery. As for Trump not caring, that's bogus.

Nope I don't contribute to politicians of any stripe. There are other far more deserving possibilities.

yeah, I guess in traitor trump's economy you gotta have lottery type bank accounts to cover the basics and it can't get better with him hiding in his bunker since Thursday. or maybe it can, everybody I know has remarked how nice it is to be free of his squealing non-stop to his terrorists so there are bright sides and with Joe n Kam coming in to save the day just hang in there and we'll MAGA BABY! you will be supporting your President in these times of severe multiple crisis your votes caused, right?
