Maybe congress should force banks to give risky loans to people who don't have a job for homes that aren't worth the price through some sort of government backed loans...what could go wrong there?

My neighbor has 15 acres of land and a home on it in PA. His real estate taxes on it are less than 2k per year.

There are a couple of dynamics in cities that are causing a lack of affordable housing- gentrification and foreign investments. I read a couple of weeks ago that there is a ratio of 3 empty apartments in NYC for every homeless person. The apartments were considered an investment, often by people that live outside the US. They only hold the property until it can be sold at a profit, often to another foreigner. That pushes the overall cost of real estate higher. Then gentrification starts, changing moderate income neighborhoods into upscale ones, causing entire neighborhoods to no longer be affordable to those that grew up in that same neighborhood. While it's fine for people to make a profit, when this kind of trend continues, you end up with places where business can't find workers because there's no affordable place for them to live, and commuting from a longer distance is cost prohibitive.

Rich liberals driving up property values in cities like San Francisco and New York City has been happening for decades. How is it Trump’s fault that rich progressives are driving their underclass out? Who can afford, and who is dumb enough, to pay 3,500 a month for a shitty studio apartment?

Actually you should thank Bush; he inherited a stable economy and by the end of his terms in office it was in shambles.

Why is Trump Tower among the most expensive in NYC? Why doesn't lower his prices and set the example??

It is up to the market to regulate housing prices and rent prices not some liberal diberal deal. Or conservative deal for that matter. That is if there is no rent control laws as New York City still has to some degree in grandfathered cases.

Sure OP, it is $$ to live nowadays. When I'm in NYC I'm camping out in Jersey City. Even so it is $65 a day to sleep in my vehicle in JC. But it is not Trump's fault. L.A. and San Fran are not Trump country. NYC is not Trump country. Seattle is not Trump country. But I can't afford to live there.

And then Obama came on the scene. In the 10 prior post depression recessions before Obama, the economy recovered the lost GDP during the recession within an average of 4.5 quarters after the recession started. But it took Obama 16 quarters or 4 years to reach that point. If that wasn't bad enough, Obama's real GDP growth was less than half as much as the WORST of any president in the last 60 years!! So, yeah, really, Obama. Thanks for NOTHING....

You have mistaken Mr Trump for Santa?

I hear he does use several Apts for safe houses for women and children at times.

If you ever find yourself in that situation will it be OK if we laugh at you?

“I think they assume that they are people who don’t work hard or there’s something wrong with them, or they may be looked upon like, ‘How do you allow yourself to be in this situation?’” she said. “But when you consider me, with a college education, I have almost 25 years of call center operations and management, and here I am, the new face of homelessness. You could be a professional person. You never know.”

Democrats are in complete control here in their own petri dish, California. In spite of paying the highest taxes, we are the poverty capitol of the US. Our middle class are on the brink of living in their cars and the roads we drive on cost more per mile than the rest of the nation, yet they are crumbling.

So please tell us again how democwats are so much better at managing money than that evew Twump!

The housing situation is rather atrocious. Prices are high and developers favor expensive high-end homes due to profit margins. We definitely need government intervention to provide more affordable housing, as the free market is a little too free to the benefit of the wealthy who profit off of sales and rentals. The real estate developer in chief should be able to figure this out.
