The only real "rogue" nation left in the modern world is North Korea and they do it for money, not power or ideology. No other nation will do it for the same reason they won't assassinate, they're too afraid of it being done to them. That doesn't apply to North Korea because they basically don't have anything to steal.

That's odd. Iran is considered the number one terrorist nation by some countries
such as Europe, USA and Israel. Worse than Pakistan (aka terrorist central.)

Unless those steel walls are lined with lead then simple geiger counters would detect nuclear devices in them quite readily, but you are correct that most containers aren't inspected in any real way. Why should they? You could put several kiloton size devices into a diplomatic "pouch"

At West Point we were taught that there were TEN reasons for war. Economics is obviously one of them. But others exist too. Like religion (remember the Crusades?), like ethnicity (remember the "Racial Cleansing" in Kosovo? Remember Armenia?) Like nationalism (Remember the Spanish Armada?) There are others.

But today IS different. The United States stood as the major deterrent to a global war since WWII. Now that Biden has shown us to be cowards, unwilling to defend even our own citizens, let alone allies... that deterrent is gone. Chin will almost certainly invade Taiwan, something our presence deterred for decades, but no longer. Russia will almost certainly invade the Ukraine, despite our presence there... for we have proven ourselves to be a nation of cowards in Afghanistan.

Now that Biden has proven us cowards in Afghanistan, not even willing to defend our own citizens... its an opportunity unequaled in history for foreign aggressors.

Iran has no fear of death... at least their leadership does not. They will kill infidels (that's us) just to get to PARADISE. They don't care at all what happens here on earth after that.

Sorry, shielding can make nukes completely undetectable. When I Commanded a nuke capable Artillery Battery in Germany in the 1980's, we kept six "ready rounds" available. They were stored in such a way that their presence was undetectable.

OK. I am surprised that any gamma emitter like plutonium could be shielded by anything that would not make it prohibitively heavy but will bow to your superior knowledge.

I don't think 'coward' is the word. The real target of Afghanistan was Al Quaeda, not the Taliban.
It was hoped that 'nation building' could be done there but in the end that proved elusive, particularly
in the rural areas. But to leave as America did was a total shamozle.

Objectives notwithstanding, we abandoned American citizens and allies to the Taliban terrorists. That is cowardice no matter what else happened.

Any non-military American citizen who was still there in 2019 was a fool. It was not the Biden Administration who dragged their feet in getting our Allies visas.

I was a contractor after taking off my uniform. I trained the NEW Iraqi Army. It never occurred to me that we would ever be abandoned by our country in a foreign land. The thought never even occurred to us. With our government there to look after us, we all stayed until told to leave. I'm sure it was the same way in Afghanistan. Remember, Biden said everything was just fine and everyone would be evacuated without incident.

It doesn't matter how deep they are or how far the tunnels go from the main bunker. Their position was still clearly pegged before Iran covered the bunkers with earth.

It is possible to scan for items of high density like masses of uranium or plutonium.

The scanner will not be able to tell if the high density material is something harmless and legitimate like a shipment of tungsten. But scanning for items of high density would weed out most shipping containers and allow inspectors to focus only on the containers that contain items of unusual density.

Uhmm... tunnels are dug underground... sometimes hundreds of feet underground. They aren't exposed to overhead observation.

    The tunnels don't matter.

The bunker itself was exposed to overhead observation before it was covered with earth.

If you know of a "scanner" which can see through steel plating, can monitor through multiple layers of lead, detect through multiple decks of ships, etc... please let the Dept of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security and the uS Customs Service know.... RIGHT AWAY!!!

The tunnels are drilled with no overhead exposure hundreds of feet below ground. When a working area is required they expand the tunnel laterally.... they don't have any reason to dig upwards 200 feet... they just exapand the size of the tunnel until it becomes a usable area. Are you pulling our leg?

Shielding prevents any detectable radiation. Are you being serious? Shielding can protect any radioactive item from detection.

That is not how Iran builds bunkers.

Iran digs a hole and builds the bunker in full view of satellites, then they fill in the hole.

Do you understand how these things are built? A tunnel is dug out, sometimes to depths of 200 feet or more. When the plans call for a usable work area, they simply dig a big wide area at 200 feet. There is never any exposure to the surface.

That is not hoe ANYONE builds underground facilities. That's ridiculous. Enemies build underground facilities secretly, clandestinely. The whole idea is taht their enemies should never find out where they are. Are you serious? How old are you?

    That's Iran.

    Yes.

Don't blame me. I'm not responsible for Iranian incompetence.
