Actually, there is a way to identify which registered firearm is used in the commission of a particular killing by maintaining a ballistics data base, that requires regular updating. Let's say we have universal gun registration requiring rifled firearms to be periodically ballistics tested and restrictions on barrel exchanges without ballistic requirements. You could essentially fingerprint the firearms owned by the public. The way I figured it, local gun shops could do the tests cheaply and send the bullets by mail to be processed for a data base. Annual or multi-year checks on firearms in ballistics tests also has gun safety implications, the weapon was inspected and fired to do the test. It would offset the loss of assault weapon and accessory sales, if such logical things are banned. The down side is it puts a lot of demand on the gun owner. It would have to be set up for renewal during a period of time and not an actual date and there should be ways to accommodate gun collectors, like a reduction of costs with volume. The cost of doing a ballistic test can be made a very small cost and the profits made in the volume of tests completed. They can make it free shipping with designed packaging. How useful a ballistics data base would be is another thing. I do think it would discourage someone using a weapon that had it's ballistic record known to some extent. I'm not sure how well altering the ballistics results of a weapon someone possesses would work and whether attempts to alter ballistics can be detected. It would require a nation-wide registration of rifled firearms. My point is, it can be done.
I'm not sure a database will accomplish anything in regards to these "mass shootings". The shooters are either killed or caught at the time of the shooting. Those that are able to get away are caught shortly afterwards. I also do not think that it will deter anybody from committing such a horrendous crime just because the weapon that they are using has been "fingerprinted". Getting away with it does not seem to be a motivation. Your idea might help with the everyday crime involving a gun, but I do not think it will help much at all with preventing mass shootings.
You guys are the only freaking ones glorifying white supremecy. The dumbass lefties in Congress hasn't figured out that by attacking the right and Trump by calling them white nationalist, your actually helping their stupid cause and pissing off half the country that's not racist. We call it like we see it and like Trump aren't racist in any way. Only a f'ing idiot wouldn't call what's happened this summer an invasion, it's not racist and is a political ploy by the lefty idiots that's been used for years against Republicans and it got Trump elected because he fought back by attacking your side like you have ours. We don't talk about White Nationalist and would kick their ass out anywhere we saw them, we don't stand for it and we're not stupid enough to even act like their a real group, when all they are is outcasts that hide in the shadows with no real meaning. You give them meaning congrats.
Such could indeed be done. In fact such has already been done by the state of Maryland. Its ballistic fingerprinting program was in place for a period of fifteen years. And in that fifteen year period, it failed to assist in solving even a single firearm-related murder. https://www.baltimoresun.com/maryland/bs-md-bullet-casings-20151107-story.html The concept is novel, but ultimately it is the creation of Hollywood. It is simply not possible to physically match either the casing, or the projectile, to precisely one single firearm and one firearm only. Perhaps it is possible to identify a particular model based on a salvaged projectile, provided it is not mangled or fragmented on impact, but such does no good if there are several hundred thousand of that one particular model in circulation.
It wouldn't help with mass shootings, those people are committing suicide the hard way in many cases. Even when the shooter survives, a life is gone, their days in society are over, they're gone, death penalty or not. The whole damned thing is a waste.
You obviously don't know the country you live in, White Supremacist have been here longer than any living American. If tRump doesn't want to be treated like a Nazi, he shouldn't act like one and for crying out loud, stop the constant whining. The boogey man isn't going to get you.
I know ballistics testing isn't all it's suppose to be, but it had to deter someone from using a ballistics tested firearm and that wouldn't show up in observation, except for a reduction of incidents. I wouldn't expect it to find suspects, but elimination is also helpful. I imagine law enforcement would like to see a record of weapons in the areas they visit.
LOL so you know some white supremacist, interesting, I live in the south and never seen one period. Forgive me for laughing at your Nazi rhetoric, you sound like a little girl, Trump talks tough when we talk tough to him so he's a Nazi. Shame you haven't taken the time to understand the evil that a Nazi was and even more of a shame that you belittle their brutality by calling someone who talks tough a Nazi. Learn a little history and get back to me, until then I'm not wasting anymore of my precious time on someone that is so childish.
There is nothing about history you can teach me. White Supremacists tend to keep a low profile in the South, a leftover from the KKK days. It's easy to understand living in the South without seeing right-wing demonstrations that have no reason to be happening there. That doesn't say much. The militias quieted down after the Oklahoma City bombing. The White Nationalist movements have always been around.
They asked for the bumpstock ban. Gun control by the executive rewriting a statute sans congressional authority isn't enough gun control for you?
The El Paso shooter according to his Manifesto: Very anti-Democratic Very anti-Republican Against Race Mixing Said the Republican Party was too Pro-Legal Immigration He's an "Eco-facist" Doesn't like Trump Racist Big Al Gore supporter, believe "Inconvenient Truth" and named his manifesto by the same name. The Ohio shooter was a Leftist.
You might as well argue with a turnip crate. They have a narrative to push and facts are no obstacle.
Yet far too many are trying to shoehorn the El Paso shooter in with Trump supporters and run of the mill conservatives.
One would expect the harsh penalties against murder to deter individuals from engaging in random killings. However such does not appear to be the case. Perhaps so. But such would not inform them of the illegally possessed firearms, which are more dangerous since there is no record of them. A list of legally owned firearms can only cause a false sense of security, or otherwise result in one not exercising proper caution.
Your FALLACY is ASSUMING that someone wants to "take away guns". The NRA and extremist gun owners have been repeating this bovine excrement for so long they now BELIEVE that it will happen. In REALITY no one on the left is advocating this. Ranting about "Nazi Germany" is Godwin's Law.
It's just more paranoia by the gun huggers. Many of them are afraid of losing their "armory" and will stoop to no ends to ensure that nothing changes. When the next shooting occurs, they'll tell us all to "pray for the deceased".
In other words you are unable to refute the FACT that there is ZERO DIFFERENCE in crime rates between whites and blacks. Got it!
Oh yeah somebody's pompus ass thinks he knows it all, color me shocked guys we have a boy genius on our hands. Just so you know I fly all over the country for a living and haven't been on a commercial jet in years , the most racist places in this country is not the south, it's the metro's in the Northeast and it's not even remotely close. Right wing and the KKK have nothing to do with each other, it's a talking point for the pompus wannabe lilly white democrats that honestly believe they are better than everyone else. It's laughable.
