The only kid I grew up with who got shot was murdered by an illegal who bought his gun from a gangbanger who stole them and sold them.
I drive by the place the ****er dumped the body every day on the way to work.

Won't have it accessible? The **** are you on about? I'm carrying right now.
Do you not know what a ****ing holster is?

So which is it? Are mass shootings ubiquitous and so common we must ban all guns, or are they so rare that the very idea I'd need to be armed in case of one is silly?

Yep. I’ve actually started treating fox like coyotes. We didn’t have fox here until about 12 years ago. At first we tried controlling them enough to continue free range poultry but no luck. Now the poultry gets kept in runs and only problem fox get killed.

Same with coyotes. If they stick to eating placenta (afterbirth) and rabbits and carrion they stay. If they eat the rectum out of a live newborn calf or the hind end out of a cow in labor they get shot. It’s impossible to eradicate them and if you try you just get all the “good” ones that eat prairie dogs and clean up carrion.

Funny dog/fox story. We had a bunch of kits that ended up motherless (not sure why, I didn’t shoot her) but were just a bit too young to make it on their own. One night when I was out checking cows calving one wandered out in the open and the border collie riding on the back of the ATV with me jumped off and grabbed it by the back of the neck. I didn’t want to see it murdered so I ran down there and grabbed the kit’s tail and told the dog to let go. Then I was committed and had to hold the little bugger by the tail at arm’s length so it couldn’t retaliate all the way around checking cows and then back to the house where I had a pen to put it in.

Luckily it figured out milk in a dish and several gallons of milk and some dog food later I hauled it several miles away to a place we don’t have any small animals/fowl and turned it loose.

I’m thankful every day we don’t have wild hogs here—yet. I think our climate is a bit too harsh in the winter for high survival rates.

Here in WI we have legal standing, an I think a moral obligation, to shoot feral pigs and hogs on sight.

I've never seen one in WI but I have witnessed the damage they can do. They are very destructive animals.

Oddly enough, the more we husband them to act that way the more the ones that live will be the ones that understand enough to smell human and think "nah, **** that I ain't getting shot".

You can snare coyote with a peice of wire and a cinch cut out of a plastic coffee can lid. Just hang it over one of their runs, crimp it to a tree, and in the morning you will have an choked out coyote.

300 people are struck by lightning each year in US, 100,000 are shot. Are you sure you still want to bet?

Okay so maybe I overestimated. There are roughly 320 million people in the United States.

So what percent get shot every year?

You're going to need a decimal and a lot of places to the right of it.

Distracted drivers are a far greater threat on a daily basis.

And what does a DGU represent? Sometimes, it's just some person who was paranoid by the looks of a shady looking person who brandished their weapon and felt saved by it. Sometimes, it's a thwarted robbery. But as to loss of life, it leads to more of it for all parties. Which is more important, stopping robberies or saving lives?

Its a defensive use of a gun. You know: Where having the gun and making that clear in some respect changed the situation. So yes, brandishing it to scare a thief off counts.
Stopping robberies can save lives, robberies often turn to murder.

Well actually that's a pretty rare outcome.
They use dogs to grab the hogs by the ears so that they can either castrate or deworm or capture the hogs.

Do you think hunting foxes with dogs is vile? How about using bird dogs? What about cattle dogs that herd livestock and occasionally nip at their ankles?

Robberies are more likely to turn to murder if the person being robbed resists. Death in general is more likely to result if guns are involved - for the victim as well as for the robber. Attempting to stop a robbery is far more likely to result in death than not resisting. Of course, this model may lead to more robberies, which is why other forms of target hardening ought to be employed.

"In confrontational robberies, victims who defended themselves in some way were less likely to lose property than victims who took no action, regardless of offender weapon, but victims who defended themselves against offenders armed with guns were more likely than those who took no actions to be injured during the crime. Across all weapon types, the most dangerous actions for victims were attacking, threatening, or resisting the offender." Essentially the only place I've seen that claimed is by a study which 1) counts you bringing a gun to the crime if you're the thug not simply the citizen and 2) counts death or injury as including that of the thug rather than only the citizen.
If that's where you're getting your info from, do I need to explain to you further why that isn't a good source?

years ago, a hunter went missing near the Greater Cincinnati Airport (CVG) which is actually in Northern Kentucky. I don't recall the ultimate end of the story but the local sheriff speculated the guy had a fatal heart attack and his remains were eaten by feral hogs. My late father's best friend had a large plantation in the panhandle of Florida. this man (who was my godfather) and my dad used to hunt feral hogs with, IIRC, their favorite deer rifles in 30-06. My father noted he watched a hog stomp a big diamondback snake and then suck it down like a noodle

The DOJ (which I worked for for 24 years) studied this issue and concluded that those who resisted had a better chance of not being harmed than those who did not, and resisting with a firearm -percentage wise-led to the best outcome for the victim. the 1995 study was not the one I read, though I was the DOJ at the time.

Was that due to the perception of the jury?

I don't understand the question. people who resist violent attacks tend to be better off than those who do not

Sometimes people use lethal force resisting as assailant. It's a sxxx state of affairs to be in just using potentially deadly force in some jurisdictions.

being attacked violently generally justifies the use of lethal force though the goal of the victim is to STOP the attack as opposed to killing the attacker

Yeah. But not all jurisdictions recognize that. Take the case of the mom and pop news stand owner in New York City who was arrested for stabbing an assailant to death, or th ecase of Kyle Rittenhouse defending himself. Hell, they charged Rittenhouse as an adult with murder and at the same time charged him with "juvenile in control of a dangerous weapon".

Who the fork gives a kid a charge as both a juvenile and an adult?
