Here are the lyrics from a song I like (and a song from my avatar--Wale; he's a DC native). If you don't live in DC or the sorrounding areas or look up the lyrics (like I did), you're not going to get a lot of the references here.

Here's where you can find out what the lyrics mean.

    http://rapgenius.com/Wale-bait-lyrics

    [Intro]
    Work work work work
Yeah you know I got that work
    I'm why baby mamas leave
    I'm why baby fathers kirk

    [Verse 1: Wale]
    Made it big with gogo
And I made it with that dough flow
This one right here for DC
This one right here for Polo
TMOTT PA Palace flow, Hugo Boss New Balance flow
Here they keep a rachet close
    And tend to think irrational
    Bait bait bait bait
Bet I get like 8 of them
    They clapping and we balling
    How fitting we at Stadium
(Bait Bait Bait Bait) BOA Lil G, Moe, Cobain and Tre
Floor seats at that Wizards game
So close I could give Flip a play
    HA my mojo back
May just gon' bring HOBO back
    Shout out chicken getting chicken
Like my North East Homie Fats
Who that (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) she fool with?
    He don't do the same
    Babygirl I just move them
    I got that Goodman game

    [Hook]
    (Bait Bait Bait)
    Who's on my line
I'm blowing up these (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)es calling me
    (Bait Bait Bait)
I'll snatch your girl if you're slipping
She's on my line like I'm fishing
(I got that) work work work work
Yeah you know I got that work
I'm why baby mamas leave I'm why baby fathers kirk
    (bait bait bait)
I'll snatch your girl if you're slipping
Double M-G not to mention we got that

    [Verse 2]
Uh riding 'round, I got some Towson bait
She said I'm her hideaway I get her off like a holiday
Yeah that girl is thick, top heavy for days
That bottom half is fishy, What you a mermaid?
Getting on my level, joe -- Nuvo new and yellow too
They not pulling in no green like smoking whent that rello broke
Never did I pedal coke but Tony Lewis said I'm dope
And Tony Jr. said I'm the hope
Big homie HOV said I am close
And I got that bait, they all bad
And they gonna fall in and out of love like my partner Taz
They need something to keep I need something to grab
Thats the end of my speech, I'm a need you to clap

    [Hook]

    [TCB speaks]
DC, Maryland Virginia this the part where I need all my sexy ladies to report to the dance floor
    This bounce beat (*)(*)(*)(*)
TCB, Wale talk to them cuz

    [Hook: Wale]
    Work work work work
Yeah you know I got that work
I'm why baby mamas leave I'm why baby fathers kirk
Work work work work all my bait I got to work
All your slum that got to hurt, this summer's mine -- I got to work

    [Verse 3]
I ain't stopping till the town gets on
These joints here not found at the mall
Shorty I'm a dog don't handle no broad
I be calling out game like Miles at the farms
I'm stuntin' though shawty from 124
Make her come a bunch of times she buys me a bunch of clothes
Girl stop being fallacious, this Mercedes is spacious
Black and white through the city guess this is gentrification
That fire flow the finest women I adore
I'm cool with all these broads in here but I do not date Lucaya hoes
Bait bait who's on my lets go lets go

    [Hook]

Perhaps you'd meant to say tycoon? Coon is a racial slur typically used by white trash racist throwbacks with brains the size of peas.

I think I'd rather keep Jay-Z here than some white trash racist who thinks that anyone with dark skin is an animal. Jay-Z could buy and sell everyone on this forum before breakfast. He's not just a hip-hop lyrical master, he is also a immensely successful music producer with a net worth up near the $450,000,000 mark - that's 1/2 billion dollars for all the dumbass white trash racists who probably have trouble counting past 20 unless they drop pants and pull out the "number 21".

    Besides, he's dating her:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m1EFMoRFvY"]Beyoncé - Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) - YouTube[/ame]

Her net worth is about $300,000,000.

    So...
He's smarter than any dumbass white-trash PF forum racist.
He's more talented than any dumbass white-trash PF forum racist.
He's richer than any dumbass white-trash PF forum racist.
He's more powerful than any dumbass white-trash PF forum racist
His wife is prettier than any dumbass white-trash PF forum racist.
His wife is smarter than any dumbass white-trash PF forum racist.
His wife is richer than any dumbass white-trash PF forum racist.
His wife is more talented than any dumbass white-trash PF forum racist.

So, yeah. We'll keep Jay-Z and send all the dumbass white-trash PF forum racists back to whatever trailer parks they came from.

Pffft. I listen to rap all the time but this is some bull. No wonder America is going down the tubes. Jay Z is decent, whatever, but his music, like most rap, wreaks of ghetto idiot mentality, metaphors and double entendres aside. Sorry, that's just a fact.

Why do you think I was referring to you? It's a general reference just like your racist comments concerning minorities.

There's no specific reference to you. I'm addressing all the unnamed dumbass white trash racists.

So PLEASE report me. That's a dialogue I would LOVE to open with the moderators.

Now this, THIS is a reportable offense likely to get someone with a history banned:

I think jay-z is one of he best rappers of all time, but regardless...

The class is part of the Universities music program. As a former music major myself, I can say that if there had been more classes dealing with contemporary music like this, and less dealing with with music from hundreds of years ago, I probably wouldnt have changed my major.

Music programs are desperately in need of an update, and this is a good step in that direction. Rap being one of the most influential musical movements of the past 30 years (if not the past century... like it or not), and jay-z being one of the best in the group, this class makes sense.

As a side note, I've seen jay-z live, and he puts on an awesome show.

The problem is that nowadays all the good rappers, other than the leftovers from the mid 90s, are mostly underground. People who arent looking for it dont hear it. All the rap they play on the radio or music channels is garbage. I blame dmx (not a fan).

Take immortal technique. The guy is a lyrical genuis, who actually tells stories, but most of the people here bashing rap have probably never heard of him.

Lastly.... (*)(*)(*)(*) lil wayne. Worst thing to happen to rap since vanilla ice.

I can't speak for Jay Z, but as far as lyrical genius, IMO you need not look any farther than Tom Waits.

The multi billion dollar music industry? Kind of odd that TerrapinStation didn't consider that.

My guess is that its a course only full time students who are music majors can take.

Where is the evidence that he is smarter? That his wife is smarter? They are both talented people who made fortunes for themselves. That doesn't mean they are smarter. A neurosurgeon is going to be smarter than both of those two people combined, yet he won't have as much money or power than either of them.

What an odd argument, of yours. You're taking the side of a celebrity to use it to trash white people. What race are you, anyway?

Oh, and rap sucks, by the way.

I'd be interested to know how many of the OWS protestors are music majors, art majors, philosophy majors, multiculturalism majors, lesbian/transgender majors, etc.

I'm betting not many doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc down there camped out.

Rap sucks so much that enough people were willing to pay for it to make him worth almost half a billion.

No form of music sucks, as the reaction to it is purely subjective.

??? Your ASSUMPTION is completely off topic and irrelevant.

Here's my assumption.... until you can provide a link proving otherwise, I'm going to assume that the "lesbian/ transgender major" doesn't exist, and that you made it up.

Interestingly enough, if nobody ever majored in music, the song you named yourself after would probably have never been recorded.

Producers, songwriters, talent scouts, promoters, music journalists and critics..... just some of the careers where people could benefit from a class that teaches you how to analyze contemporary music.
