Over just one month of player, coach, and owner protests of the flag and National Anthem, the National Football League has gone from America's sport to the least liked of top professional and college sports, according to a new poll.

From the end of August to the end of September, the favorable ratings for the NFL have dropped from 57 percent to 44 percent, and it has the highest unfavorable rating – 40 percent – of any big sport, according to the Winston Group survey provided exclusively to Secrets.

Worse for football, which was already seeing lower TV ratings and empty stadium seats, the month of protests and complaints about them from President Trump drove core fans, men 34-54, away, the most significant indicator that NFL brass aren't in touch with their base.

    ================================================================

Let's see if they stay stuck on stupid like the Newspapers, CNN, Hollywood. If they do their base will stay gone and there goes the huge paychecks.

The USFL may have a new shot in America.

One thing I noticed from a few posts on this forum were several people saying that the fans leaving because of the Protest Imbroglio would be back, that they couldn't sustain a prolonged absence away from the NFL. I always wondered what the logic was behind that. Unless someone is arguing that the NFL is addicting, I can't see it.

The NFL has tons of things competing for the attention span of it's viewers and attendees. They can watch another sport, sure - or watch something else on the tube, play online games, or start scrapbooking at home for all we know, whatever. There's literally thousands of things they can do besides watch the NFL If the Imperial Poobahs running the sport are okay with their losing fans it's no skin off my back, but I find it a very poor business model.

Last year when all this started they said the declining viewership was due to the election, this proves that idea not to be true. The big mistake the NFL made was allowing this to happen at all. Why risk alienating your fans when you have good idea from last year that the fans didn't approve of this disrespectful nonsense; it's sort of like that comedian who held up Trump's decapitated head, she thought people would like and accept it.

My team, the Giants, are out of it, so I doubt I will be watching any games tomorrow. It's not because I'm intentionally boycotting, it's that I've lost interest and it's quite possible I've lost interest because of whining crybaby racist millionaires who are protesting a problem for which none of them could probably ever name a victim of.

The NFL must have thought it would be a tough decision for Americans to make - choose them or choose America. Like most left leaning ideologies they got it wrong.

Haven't watched a Giants game yet. It's gonna suck Thanksgiving. We have the game on every year.

The NFL has screwed itself. The whole thing started on a lie. It was about "Hands Up, Don't Shoot" which Kaepernick and the Rams and others embraced. The kneeling started with that lie.

I quit watching and have been enjoying Alabama Football instead. MMA too.

I have high hopes that this will be the downfall of football as it presently exists in this country. It appears to inflict cognitive damage similar to that produced by boxing, which finally made that a lesser sport.

Additionally, maybe it is time to re-constitute sports in this country so ordinary players who enjoy them can at least get a chance to participate. I was disgusted in school to find how little opportunity most students had to participate; it was all about who was"best". Sports are supposed to be games, not competitions for survival.

ROGER GOODELL SECRETLY IN THE PAY OF NASCAR

Shock poll: NFL now least liked sport, core fans down 31%.

The problem is, the people running the NFL — like the people running many institutions — care more about approval from their social peer group than they do about the opinions of their customers, or even the performance of the institutions they run. The solution is to get people from a different social peer group, one more like the customers, to run things, but that’s hard given the tremendous homogeneity of America’s ruling class.

We gave up on gladiator sports 30 years ago. While America sits on the couch chewing chicken wings and gulping low-quality beer, and getting fatter, watching a meaningless game, gladiators on the field are getting crippled for life with everything up to CTE.

B-B-But only last week our leftists were roaring that no fan boycott would be effective against the financial behemoth that is the NFL and that loyal leftists would easily keep the franchise system afloat.

Rightwingers make up the vast majority of NFL members, you know that. The left often prefers soccer. You know, the sport that conservatives make fun of.

You raise interesting points, and the truth is that a lot of NFL fans were already getting pissed-off and frequently tuning out before this big rollout of BLM-inspired propaganda and the "kneeling" disrespect of the symbols of our nation.

Even without all this nauseating BLM nonsense, there are too many interruptions! Too many time-out's. Too many commercials. Too many 'promos' for other crap that have nothing to do with football. Too many disputed calls on the field, growing out of too many additional rules-changes in game-play. So often in the past three years or so I've asked myself, "Why am I even sitting here and watching this crap?"

For something totally different, watch an NHL Hockey game sometime! I've watched two Colorado Avalanche games during the past few days, and I am HOOKED. Although I never was a big hockey fan before, I'm going to be one now. So, 'buh-bye', NFL. You owners, NFL toads, and network big-wigs get together and fire all the BLM-trash, cut the number of commercials and other interruptions, and maybe a lot of former fans will be back next year. But this year? YOU STEPPED IN IT AND TRACKED IT ALL OVER THE HOUSE! We're gone!

Don't think so. The Trump base won't stay away for long. Hockey just doesn't do the trick. Ticket sales are brisk.

Having football become a less popular sport is a good, healthy move for American kids. Too many traumatic brain injuries.

You might be right (for once). Check the respective ratings for the NFL and for professional soccer in this nation.

At any given moment you have more people who have gotten up to go to the bathroom during NFL broadcasts than those that sit through
the interminable boredom and infantile aping of European soccer culture of "major league" soccer in North America.

One thing can be said without fear of contradiction -- NHL Hockey is ANYTHING but boring! By contrast, NFL players are slow-moving, dull-witted, somewhat stupid, and frankly, out of shape (that's why they have their hands on their hips by 4th-quarter, trying to breathe).

Hockey games are everything that NFL games no longer are -- exciting, fast-moving, unpredictable from one instant to the next, and, actually interesting! If the idea of that appeals to you, check your cable listings for NHL games, no matter where in North America you live.

Yeah nothing like turning us into bigger pansies. There are millions of people who played football who didn't have any issues. Football is not the only factor when considering mental health problems of some players.

Sundays? Only 'Sundays'? Expand your horizons and discover 'The King of Sports': https://www.nhl.com/schedule

Hint: Want to watch a game that demands real skill and enduring athletic ability from its players? A game where a player can be expected to actually be able to MOVE for more than 10 seconds at a time without falling down...?
