My question is....where has it been established the willingness or capacity of Cops to protect you has now been diminished and how. In the absence of an explanation, this seems to be the gun lobby cashing in on the gullible creating a rush.

The cops don't protect you that's not their job.

Gun lobby? Lol, how do you know it's not the Illuminati or men from Mars?

If you feel like it? You simply will not be able to buy a pistol out of state from a FFL because it is illegal. Sure you can buy one private but then why even bother going out of state.

What stops me? Some law that's impossible to enforce? One that I think is unjust and therefore don't have to abide? Are police going to watch me 24/7? Doesn't California have a human trafficking problem? Isn't that more important?
depends, if I find someone to sell me one or not. If not I can find them elsewhere.

There are multiple court decisions that affirm police have no requirement to protect a person. For example:

I'm gonna go with the idea that there's people out there who will, when they run out of money because they have no job, will start looking into the idea of home invasions.

My wife and I bought our first guns last year, BTW. Looks like we beat the rush.

Okay....so Trump has done nothing to ensure that people out there will NOT run out of money any more than they were running out previously. Nah....this sure looks like a smart snake oil salesman at work, and the gullible have bought it.

Good question. Any sensible person would already have a gun(s).

People realizing the only person that can protect them is themselves. Basically when reality gets hard people can no longer afford to be stupid.

Anybody that is pro gun rights already has guns. California has been saying that you don't need guns while confirming in court that they are not responsible for the protection of the citizens. The situation and strong possibility of social unrest and looting is making the gullible realize that they are now vulnerable and their government is against them being able to defend themselves. They were told that it was too easy to get a gun and now they can't get one unless they want to be a criminal. The "gun lobby" or "NRA" has nothing to do with the run on gun shops. What did they do to stir up unrest? Black market guns are not from the "gun lobby", and that's all they can get for the next 10 days. And then good luck finding ammo without doing it illegally.

There are no lines for guns in Texas. The ammo is flying off the shelves, but there is no rush for guns.

The severity of the restrictions varies from state to state. I bought an M1 garand online from the CMP. In order to qualify, I had to demonstrate a proficiency in firearms. I found out the easiest way to demonstrate a proficiency in firearms is to take a 45 minute online class to get my Virginia concealed carry permit.

After my experience there is no doubt in my mind that it is no doubt in my mind that it is way too easy to purchase a firearm in some states, particularly in Virginia.

We are going round in circles, so I'll exit stage left. My point is clear enough.

In order to qualify to own something you have the right to own should be that you are a person of legal age and not convicted of criminal Behavior. Proficiency is none of the governments business.
that sould be enough no matter what state it comes from.
It's equally easy in all States. If it's far more difficult to do it legally in a particular state they are just rewarding criminal Behavior. And criminal black markets.

While I feel your point, I cant share the optimism. People dont seem to learn from their mistakes.

not sure where you live, but I have not needed a gun all my life, don't need one now

I support your right to own one, but do not feel I need one
