Catholics are not by tradition Christian Zionists though I know when checking recently that your billionaire Evangelical Preachers did manage to get to some through their broadcasts - in a similar way to how the Saudi's have managed to influence many to Wahhabi.

I have also read that in the last five years or so there has been a reduction in Evangelicals being Zionists.

It is mainly a Protestant thing brought about due to a misunderstanding of the Bible when it came out in print for the first time in the 16th or 17th Century. I also was reading recently that before these tele evangelicals got going American Christians coming from their place of Christian compassion were drawn more to helping the Palestinians. It seems to have been a real shock to the neo cons the way the Church worldwide worked to end apartheid. Not surprising that they wanted to make sure that did not happen again and in particular have been working in Africa against progressive Christians in order to make sure their work for 'God' comes to nothing.

In respect to Israel it is also true that churches rightly felt remorse at their treatment of Jews though when this moves to not being able to accept wrongs being done, when this amounts to ploughing money into injustice expecting it to amount to Armageddon the Church has clearly lost it's way.

And of course some Churches though accepting blame for their mistakes in the past and their part creating myths that Jews should be in Palestine, that Palestine not being ruled by white people was a land without a people for a people without a land, for being intrinsically linked to the creation of the myths which have put the ME on fire, do accept their mistakes, have been able to listen to their Christian brothers and sisters in Palestine and indeed in the broader Middle East where they believe the beliefs about putting Jews in Israel has not only created a situation of injustice in the area but is directly implicated in the rise of fundamentalist Islam and the killing of Christians in the area.

The massacres during war you mention are not confirmed except a few, they are based on stories of eye witnesses which might have been part of the propganda war, but I dont deny the death of many in Arab villages, I told you before it was an ethnic war between nations that shared same living space so once the war was declared it was obvious civilians would carry arms, civilians would die and or be cast away, its the side that declared this war that's responsible IMO, and they knew that very well, they said it loud and clear that there will be a massacre (Arab big mouth remember ?) because they knew war in such conditions will be mostly between civilians bearing arms.
