Um ... no .... the Islamic requirement for women to cover their hair, bodies, and faces is because they must not tempt men into behaving sinfully. Islamic men seem to have a long tradition of being too weak to control themselves in that regard, IMO.

Your freedom ends where possible harm to my health begins. No one has the right to endanger others.

    Good post!

You should paint that on every wall with big bold letters!

According to the constitution, personal freedom always ends when it endangers others in society. And voluntary work rarely works well enough ... but when it comes to fines, most people stick to it.

Voluntary issue: In my country, the government has launched a Corona Warn app. When installed, it warns the owner if an infected person was nearby, etc., about the danger ... but everything is anonymous due to data protection.
Ultimately, this app was so neutered and only purely voluntary that it is currently used by about 2.5% of the population ... = ridiculous and superfluous!

    Finally, joke:

"In the past at this game "Pokemon Go" people were walking through the city with their smartphone and looking for Pokemons ... now with the warning app people are walking around the city with their smartphone and looking for infected ... crazy world!"

Masks work at stopping dust/pollen/sand/wood particles, and etc... They do NOT work at stopping viruses.

It is also not healthy to wear them around everywhere every day.

I live in an open carry state. If I paint that on my property, someone is likely to shoot at it.

Without that I want to go "off topic" now ... but again a hint that there are too many morons with guns in the USA.
At least then it is certain, if the shooter is drunk, that it was someone over age 21 ... because under age 21 you are legally allowed to arm yourself with plenty of guns, also be a soldier and fight, shoot, wound and kill others in a war or getting, wounded or killed yourself ... but you are not legally not allowed to drink alcohol. Crazy ...

    Anyway ...
Ignorance against facts can cause always violence like you say ;-)

smoking in ones own car does not hurt others, not wearing your seat belt does not hurt others

yes, people will want to avoid being harassed by police - but it's still wrong to mandate it via law imo

as for masks, same could be said during flu season.. will wearing masks be the new normal? just like wearing seat belts?

That's OK... all you have to do is get Biden elected, then apparently, we'll be the ones "hunting down the Republicans"

At least according to this idiot, whose comic strip was sometimes perfect back in the day...

    https://www.thewrap.com/dilbert-scott-adams-republicans-will-be-hunted/

    SNIP
“Dilbert” creator Scott Adams made a fearful prediction about the 2020 presidential election on Twitter on Wednesday, telling his Republican followers that if Joe Biden is elected to the White House, “there’s a good chance you will be dead within the year.”

“Republicans will be hunted,” he wrote in a follow-up tweet, later adding, “Police will stand down.”
    ENDSNIP

Turns out he was more "the pointy haired boss" instead of Dilbert

Great point... I certainly don't see it becoming a "new normal", but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to wearing one if I feel crappy this winter, yet have to head out for some reason.

    Sorry it does ...
Aside point that if another non smoking person sits with you in your car, you hurt him at least with the smoke ...
Smoking can affect attentiveness while driving ... think about it when you light your cigarette while driving, where you look instead of the street and the traffic!
It's not quite as bad as making a phone call while driving ... as punishment, these people have aside a high fine also to bite their smartphone 10 times ... you can easily cause an accident with another one and this is then not yours only.

And as far as the seat belt is concerned ... if unbuckled it is then you who then flies through his car in an accident or flies out through the front window etc. ... but for your stupidity and stubbornness your insurance must then pay for the medical costs, isn't it?

In Asia they still do mostly / often since decades ... voluntary ... but anyway:

The flu compared to Corona is bad and unfortunately an own goal for the opponents of a mask requirement ...

Number of flu deaths in the USA in 2019 = approx.37,000 ... and Donald Trump called this number himself in March.
On average there are between 20,000 and 70,000 deaths from influenca in every flu season in the US ... depending on how aggressive the flu pathogen is in a season.
And the flu season lasts for around 9 months ... end of summer to beginning of summer the following year!

Corona deaths in six months to date and currently in the USA: 130,147 !!!

I would say that no flu virus reaches the mortality and danger of Corona, isn't it?

If COVID is still going on, sure.... But if cases are "down to zero" or much MUCH lower then it is now, I don't expect it'll be a full time thing in my house. Maybe still at the grocery store....

    I'm open to anything...

but the flu kills thousands too, that is my point, if the argument can be used here, it can be used there too

we should not mandate it be worn, if someone fears catching something, they can wear one

this is not about if people should wear one, it's if it should be a crime not too

I feel the same about seatbelt laws and not smoking in ones own car laws

I really don't get why all of a suddens conservatives have decided to go to war on this molehill.
Do you paint your house fuscia defying city ordinances?
Do you spit on the street in front of cops?
Do you build extra levels on your house defying zoning laws?
Do you dig holes in the public parks?
Do you go naked to the beach one removed from the designated nudist beach?
Do you walk your dog off leash at all times anywhere you want?
    Do you hire illegal labour?

Passing local laws enforcing wearing of masks is so much less of a burden than dozens upon dozens of laws that the sheeple follow. Why is this the one that breaks the camel's back?

The 3 in my family all gets a flu shot in October.... None of us have ever had "the flu" (that we know of.... certainly never hospitalized for it)

Is there a correlation there?? Dunno, but it works for us, knock on wood...

I don't believe it should be a "crime" not to wear a mask, but I'd have no trouble with fines in certain circumstances... I know that may sound contradictory to some, but not to me...

I also get the flu shot

I believe a business should decide if they allow people in with masks or not, people can decide to do business there or not

cases are low in our area, so I only wear a mask where required.... if cases were rising and the medical system was at risk, I would wear a mask or stay at home

90% of the country will get this virus no mater what we do... it's just will we spread the cases out over time or not, so the medical system is not overloaded

    You dating double baggers again?

I have the inalienable right to be human and the legal right be free from irrational, warrantless intrusive behavior from an insane government.

This type of government intrusion into natural bodily function cannot end well for individual freedom. Think in terms of the range wars, where cattle roamed free and farmers had a cow so to speak. The legal solutions came down to the legal philosophy of fence in or fence out. Free range or fence in.

Individual freedom is paramount, protecting that freedom is government's supreme remit.

Law then should fall on the side of natural beings living naturally. Don't fence the individual in because of a maybe, a perhaps or anything that cannot be absolutely defined or proven. Jailing someone because they didn't wear a mask because of fear that when they tell you they're immune and not shedding virus that they are lying isn't a sound rational solution.

I absolutely support your right to creat a barrier around yourself to keep me or anything out. I don't in general support the idea you can force another to wear a barrier to protect you from potential harm. There are better ways.

    Cheers

Fines makes it a crime. Don't pay the fine and at the bitter end is a man with a gun.

I didn't know Leno wrote his own jokes. Forcing people to wear a mask is a joke. This is nothing more than a trial balloon to see how far they can abuse their power.

Interesting to see someone put a sexist spin on the issue. Bravery (It exists even when there are no testicles) isn't cowering to government rule. Even here in Los Angeles, people on the hiking trails don't wear masks. (Or obey leash laws)
