Then it seems our dispute is semantic.

To me (and likely most people who don't deal with these on a day to day basis), this is a respirator

    Plastic, has replaceable filters, etc..

In the video I posted, most would consider that a "mask". If I'm correct, I'm assuming to you a "mask" is just those fabric ones people are making themselves. Which is valid to a point. Those "masks" just need more care and attention.

I guess I just don't really get the point of your argument. Even the crappy "masks" do slow vapor projection from coughing and breathing simply due to being a barrier in front of your face. But listening to you, one could surmise that you believe that because they aren't 100% effective, then no point in using them?

also, places that require masks and adherence to social distancing shows a marked difference in cases.

That will never happen, the gubermint doesn't give a flying eff about us, this is all about control.

This is like gun control, if you want to carry a gun for your protection and those around you, I truly support that, but if you don't, that's your decision, likewise if you want to wear a mask for your protection and those around you, I truly support that as well, but if you don't, that's your decision.

However don't require me to carry a gun for self protection for myself and for those around me, nor require me to wear a mask for the same reason.

Actually silicone, with a varied selection of filters.

But none the less that respirator can actually lower a person's chanced of inhaling the virus.

    100% true.

Because of the ability for masks to spread the virus, it's not that are not 100% effective, it's because they can actually become a biological danger spreading the virus over a much larger area.

That has a lot more do to with distancing and lowered attendance, and in reality going into a establishment which has recirculating air conditioning system, masks are rendered useless, unless that establishment has UVA lighting installed in their A/C system.

I find it really sickening how unprepared people are to deal with a virus, or actually anything that is tossed their way, as a society we have become to dependent on someone else to take care of us.

If it was a Zombie virus, more intense control would be required, and supported by me. Zombies break down fences, and enter property they don't own. Zombies don't care if it a park where kiddies play, like Stone Mountain, but if the media isn't more outraged at that than a couple's property violated it is only about control.
