One interesting aspect of James Comey's recent interview on ABC was that he made it clear that the Steele dossier isn't true.

Comey did so by saying Trump was thinking about having Comey prove that the salacious allegations in the document weren't true.

If those allegations were true, the last thing in the world Trump would want is the FBI taking a closer look at them. Remember that at that time, the FBI was saying it couldn't verify the accounts, meaning that if Trump were guilty he would think that he was safe. So why would he then risk everything and ask the FBI do a deep dive into allegations that were true?

Comey urged Trump not to ask him to investigate, supposedly because it might create a narrative that the FBI was investigating Trump.

More Comey Lies: The FBI had already used the dossier to justify spying on Trump associates and it would seem odd that the FBI would use a document for something so significant, using the full force of the government to spy on an American citizen, without trying to verify everything in the file. After all, if there was clear proof that parts of the dossier were lies, more evidence would be required to prove that other parts, like the ones used in the FISA warrant application, were correct.

Why shouldn't the FBI investigate all parts of a document that they used to get an authorization to spy on an American citizen?

the whole dossier was subsequently leaked and spun in such a manner as to imply, incorrectly, we now know, that the FBI had reason to consider it was credible.

Could one imagine the FBI getting a FISA warrant on Hillary based on unsubstantiated innuendo paid for by the RNC? Yet even now, Comey seems more concerned to tell us about his personal dislike of Trump rather than explain why a document that he urged the president to not have the FBI investigate was used to target the Trump campaign with the full power of the American intelligence establishment.

Given that everyone would agree that if the RNC had gone to Moscow and said it would pay for dirt on Hillary, it would have found lots of people willing to lie for cash – precisely what the DNC did – it's truly amazing that Comey isn't doing mea culpas for bad judgment on the FISA warrant.

As often happens with those afflicted with hubris, it's clear that Comey told us much he didn't really want us to know in his interview with Clinton flunky Stephanopoulos.

She quit first, it was that classic scene. "I quit" "No, you're fired". And rightfully so, I already gave out the link on the few times when a lawyer may be excused from representation of a client(be it the person, or the government) and NONE of them is "Well, I think I'll lose this case." She had a moral obligation to fight the case on behalf of the State, and if they lost oh well.

The State lost another one, just a couple of days ago(the violent immigrant law.) Do you think the lawyers for the State Department are going to quit? No, because most have more integrity than Sally Yates. Trust me, your favorite martyr has just about gutted her own career in law. Even if she opened up a private practice, there isn't anyone who heard of what happened in the US who would trust her.

I can't trust a lawyer that will bail if the situation gets muddy from a trial standpoint.

As far as Cohen dropping the lawsuit. That doesn't necessarily validate the dossier, nor vindicate the decision to publish what would be classified government material.(If in fact the FBI deemed it so worthy, obviously not.) You have to understand that these things cost MONEY. The money you get from winning such a civil case, a healthy percentage of it will go to your lawyer. Then there's the uncertainty towards if you lose the case. What, do you think the attorney won't charge? Some say they won't, but for many they're looking for the pay(and rightfully so) regardless of consequences.

Nor does it vindicate that non-sourced "close to the investigation" hash job that if it said "Sources: Mueller: Trump not guilty of collusion or obstruction", many of you would have yelled 'fake news' to the hill top. All dropping the lawsuits mean, is that Cohen is focusing his and his lawyer's attention on the immediate, pressing issues of whatever he is facing criminally.

If Cohen still believes he's been defamed, he can always pick up the suit at a later time. But right now, criminal defense comes first for this individual.

:) My first impression too. Then when the CFO of Deutsche Bank was also there… my spidey senses kicked in. It could be a perfectly innocent little gathering. Maybe they gather there to smoke cigars every time one of the bros is raided?

And only a bunch of willful Sheep would actually believe that if Cohen is dangling around with potential federal criminal charges, his calculated stupid move behind the fake law suit against Buzzfeed, for the Steele Dossier, is a no brainer. If someone is innocent, and/or has a legitimate lawsuit to be made, he or she doesn't just bail out because of potential criminal liability. It is giving the store away by letting the world know that your law suit was all for show at a time when you are facing federal criminal charges. Cohen is an idiot.

We do not know what Cohen is charged for, it could be related, it could not be related. But as others have said: If it were at all related to the Russian Investigation, Mueller would have included it in his case(The involvement of the NY Department wouldn't be necessary.) So more likely than not, it's about this payoff issue, etc.

And as I said: The stuff costs money, I wouldn't even be surprised if Cohen's lawyer "recommended"(more like demanded) that Cohen drop the suit to retain his services. Because juggling multiple cases surrounding a single client isn't exactly ideal with all of that paperwork.

And we have Steele on the record saying it wasn't meant for public consumption. Because they couldn't validate their own reports(yet felt compelled enough to give it to the freaking FBI.) Based on all of the facts we know, I'm not ready to give the dossier credit based on god awful reporting and a withdrawal of a lawsuit.

But let's presume Cohen did in fact know he went to prague, and that he had no standing to sue. That would've been evidenced LONG before now, Buzzfeed would have gladly had the suit dismissed. If they had the evidence to do so. Obviously, they didn't.

Bottom line, is that for (probably) once in his life, Cohen has to play defense instead of just being an aggressive ****hole

Here is the bottom line, as I (and Politico) see it

    SNIP
The move could also bolster Cohen's effort to delay a suit brought in Los Angeles by porn star Stormy Daniels, who claims to have had a sexual encounter with Trump about a decade ago. It could have been difficult for Cohen to convince that judge to put Daniels' case on hold while Cohen continued to press civil suits in other federal courts.

You, I, and the Cockroach running around under their feet, know better than it being some innocent Cigar smoking thug gathering.

I suspect, Cohen was probably getting a real dose of what he might be facing if he talks about Deutsche Bank. And I'm not talking about what the feds are going to do to him. I'm sure he was almost ready to swallow that Cigar once his Mafia goon bosses told him how it was going to be.

PS. On that note, Alfa Bank's lawsuit is still ongoing. If the dossier were true, again, Alfa Bank would have no standing to sue and Buzzfeed's first priority would be to move to dismiss.

But just like Buzzfeed most likely didn't have any evidence to collaborate the Cohen story, I don't think they have any evidence to collaborate the Alfa Bank story.

It'd be awesome if Simpson/Levy gave the full facts to Congress/law enforcement, they hold the keys to the truth. They know the "sources"(if in fact any at all) and they refused to name them. Well it's time to get those names, by any means necessary.

Why are folks like you always debating in some pre-conceived past tense? The investigation is far from over, so until it is you can save your past tense notions of things that should have happened. The logic you present, makes no sense.

More like Cohen's lawyer knows that law suit is dead weight going no where. His lawyer knows the law suit was nothing more than a smokescreen in an attempt to shield Trump from the truth.

And thank you Mr. Steele for doing so, because it sure has matched up so far.
That's on you. As for me, I'm going with what has already been a perfect match to the truth, as the Dossier has been a consistent path to that truth.

How do you know that? The Steele Dossier, as any other evidence coming in, has to be dealt with, with a fine tooth comb. It sometimes takes weeks, months, and sometimes years to investigate all leads. That presumption makes no sense.

If they had no evidence of what they were publishing, then yes they were LIABLE to be sued for it. In fact, the quotes from the Politico article here: https://www.politico.com/story/2018/04/18/trump-michael-cohen-flip-536926 Prove exactly my point.

“given the events that have unfolded, and the time, attention, and resources needed to prosecute these matters, we have dismissed the matters, despite their merits."

Which is EXACTLY what I said, prior to even reading this article/statements. Because you see, you see what YOU want to see. I evaluate the evidence/situation based on its merits. You want to see this as collaborating that third-hand "report" by an unknown reporter up until now. I saw this as "Yeah, criminal defense is more important."

That and that other suits are still ongoing is further proof that Buzzfeed/Fusion GPS isn't exactly out of the water. They just don't have Cohen to deal with anymore.

And it's not a past tense statement, it's what WOULD happen according to law. If any of the evidence pertained to the Russian investigation, Mueller would have kept it. But it didn't, which means that it doesn't have anything to do with the Russian investigation.

See, some of us have a clear-eyed perspective, reading different sources, understanding the brevity of everything that's happening. Then some others just want to see everything in a prism. These developments today, aren't good or bad for anybody but a shift in legal strategy for Michael Cohen. That's all it is.

First, you never addressed the ridiculous implication you made about Yates's actions being illegal. Not that i expected you to. Secondly Yates didn't refuse to fight because she thought she'd lose but because she felt it was her moral and constitutional duty to do so. Now you can certainly disagree with her, even though so far the federal courts haven't, that's your right. But to argue she showed no integrity when she stood up for something she believed in even though she knew it would cost her her job flies in the face of reality. That is the very essence of integrity. Also Yates has had a distinguished career, she's going to be just fine.

Hard to imagine, sure. Just depends upon if the FBI, or higher ups, hated clinton or not, not wanting her to be president. My opinion from just what we know as fact, to date.

To believe there is not a political element involved here in regards to trump would require ignoring what we have found out so far on this deal, IMO. Something stinks here, like dead fish. That does not mean there is a dead fish a stinkin', but it just has the peculiar smell of such.

Of course we may eventually discover what the truth is, and that will settle and perhaps end all of the conjecture being treated as hard evidence. I look forward to that day given how tiring this is to try and keep up with facts over conjecture and creative, wishful thinking.

My position remains the same, as I still doubt, highly, that anything illegal went on between russia and trump, and to date there has not been the hard evidence to change my position. I have no problem at all in changing a position, given evidence, and if something illegal went on between trump and putin, I want the man hanged, metaphorically of course. All that matters to me, a non trump voter, is the truth of the matter. I am not so sure the partisan trump haters are in my group, in fact, quite the contrary given their emotional, partisan investment in this issue. Driven IMO, by losing to the man, and of course the deep hatred we have seen from them along with so many in MSM.

Until that time of revelation, I will remain tiredly entertained by what can only be called one helluva a circus, with clowns enough on both sides as well as suspect behavior on both sides with particular people. Comey being one of them. The Boy Scout seems to be politically and emotionally invested in this, or at least that is my own perception. Trump's mistake was not firing him directly after he assumed the office IMO. It would have minimized some of the drama and circus.

I am still thinking that nothing resembling an illegality took place between putin and trump, but expect the investigators to find some potential illegal activity involving trump's lawyer and perhaps even trump in his history of business dealings. But I think you would find illegality with any big real estate person in NYC, for I think it goes with the territory. The degree of it is what is up for grabs.

Unlike the left here, (although I am a mixture of left and right values and beliefs) if I turn out to be totally wrong on illegal collusion, I will be the first to admit just how wrong my judgment was. But then I have tried for much of my life to have some integrity and honesty in all of the things I am involved in. If I turn out to be ignorant or stupid, it is an honest mistake and not contrived. I will, unlike the left, learn a lesson from it, remember it, and attempt to not repeat it. Can we really say that about the Left who post here, most of them? I swear to god, some days I must take a shower after I stop posting, to get the dirt off, from just inhabiting the same cyber space with some of these folks. And yet I keep coming back. ha ha. And I would bet outside of politics, there are some decent folks, and nice to spend time with, most of them. Politics can and does create questionable characters. I guess in this era it comes with politics and one may as well accept it and stop being upset by it. ha ha. No country for old men, IMO. And no country for those that still value forthrightness, integrity and honesty. It seems the lack of integrity and honesty which was once most only seen in DC, has now infiltrated out into the american People. And become a pox, which appears to be very contagious.
