    There is no end to the statist's desire to command and control. You'll compromise on one thing, and a short while later they'll be back for another compromise. It will not end until you have nothing left.

    I would be willing to give up my gun as long as ALL politicians give up their arms and armed body guards.

    That's why, under the premise of the OP, they have to give something order to get something.
    The more onerous the restriction they seek, the more gracious their offer in return.

    And it would only be enforceable against those who did not possess a disqualifying criminal record. Thus you would be maintaining a list of individuals who are abiding with the law, rather than a list of individuals who have a documented history of violating the law.

    It's hard to confiscate guns when you don't know where they are.
