That Nazi super tank would have been something:

What I was talking about would be some sort of "unstoppable short of nukes" sort of thing, kind of like the ships in 1984 (floating mountains basically). Nothing like this would happen within this century likely, but it makes an interesting sci-fi concept and something to think about.

The 2 super tanks the nazis designed were for different purposes.

    Landkreuzer P. 1000 Ratte
The thousand ton one was to be outfitted with two 280 mm SK C/34 naval guns mounted in a modified naval heavy cruiser turret and a 128 mm anti-tank gun as well as two 15 mm Mauser MG 151/15 auto cannons, and eight 20 mm Flak 38 anti-aircraft guns, probably with at least four of them as a quad mount.
It would be able to move remarkably fast for its size (25 mph) on 4 foot across treads, would be semi amphibious and it would have had a crew of about 60 men give or take a few. This thing would have destroyed the hell out of roads and bridges, but it would have been so large it wouldn't have mattered.
It had a vehicle bay large enough to house 2 motorcycles for scouting, as well as several smaller storage rooms, a compact infirmary area, and a self-contained lavatory system.

Its primary purpose would be to utterly demolish any enemy defense line, and to act as a mobile base. The armor would have been so thick (9 inches of hardened steel all over to be exact) it would have been nearly impervious to anything anyone could throw at it short of battleships.
Its firepower would have wrecked the hell out of anything we had on the ground short of an entire army.
with support vehicles, or if they had built several, this thing would have been able to spearhead its way through any defense and there would have been jack anyone could do about it.
It got canceled because by 1944 the top nazi brass saw the writing on the wall and cancelled construction.

The 1500 ton tank was meant to be a self propelled platform for the 800mm Schwerer Gustav 800mm railway gun. These were the largest artillery guns ever made to really use in war. Their 7 ton projectiles fired up to 23 miles and were designed for use against heavily fortified targets.
It would have a secondary armament of two 150 mm sFH 18/1 L/30 howitzers and multiple 15 mm MG 151/15 autocannons. The main armament could have been mounted without a rotating turret. It would have been 130 feet long with a 100 man crew and would have had 9.8 inch thick steel armor on its hull.
This thing was canceled because they simply couldn`t figure out how to make it go at any sort of acceptable speed and it would have been a massive sitting duck for aircraft.

It was basically going to be a bigass tank with this on top of it:

The first one would have been cool, the second was just silly.

Your right about everything but their artillery`s accuracy.
See, it doesn`t matter if their artillery is from last year, the 80, the 60`s, or even the 40`s. If they have time to sight where the shell is going to land, then thats where its going to land. If they have the entire border sighted then they can hit pretty much anything they want.

Under the Obama administration, the military budget is at record levels. And most of it borrowed from China. So why are the air force and navy shrinking?

No, defense SPENDING is at RECORD levels.

Defense spending I EFFECTIVENESS is at RECORD levels! Of course, witness our defense companies at record profitability, which means they are keeping the money and not making weapons.

It is time to cut the defense company contracts amounts in HALF, and institute TREASON trials for any CEOs who do not keep their production at the same levels.

If the companies think they don't have enough money to perform their contracts after chopping monster executive pay and bonuses, they can have bake sales to raise the extra, or get tax free donations from corporations who believe we should be at a war constantly, like the oil companies, who average a war bonus of about $20/bbl extra profit when war is ongoing in the ME.

Believe me when I say I agree with you. We also need to cut down the amount of private contractors and do away completely with hiring mercenary scum like blackwater.
Private contractor and mercenaries usually join the military for one term, get trained, then sign with a company and get hired back by the military for 3-4 times as much as they were getting as actual soldiers.

I think an across the board cut of contractors and a raise for people in the military (or at least to people serving in combat areas) should be made.
Wasn`t the last time the military got a raise back during the Clinton administration? I think with this we could save money and fix the problem.

    I don't see the problem.
