No matter what we will never see a strong economy with Obama as president. We will just be weaker and deeper in debt

It's as if you're stuck on Obama.

You are ignorant of military strategy. Our expense comes from what we call "force multipliers" that allow a platoon of American ground troops to accomplish tasks that in World War II or Vietnam took entire battalions.

For instance, lets take the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan. You've seen the military documentary Restrepo? If not, I highly suggest you watch it.

A single US Company of the 173rd Airborne Brigade, Battle Company, is able to secure an entire valley 10 miles long and 5 miles wide where in Vietnam such a task would've required a full battalion plus supporting elements and only then just temporarily.

The reason our military is so expensive is our force multipliers(jets, advanced artillery systems, apache helicopters, etc)

Thanks to these force multipliers, a single US brigade is now able to accomplish what would require the Chinese, or Iran an entire division or more to accomplish. How do you think Hal Moore was able to hold off two entire NVA regiments with a single battalion of light airborne infantry at Ia Drang? Under all military sense, Hal Moore should've been wiped out within a couple hours of landing in that field, but American force multipliers gave that battalion the ability the equivalent combat power of a division.

Take away our force mulitpliers through massive budget cuts and you will be correct, our troops wouldn't stand a chance.

They wanted our Army to be made up of militia. They said we should have a standing navy as it would be our first line of defense against an existential threat.

My proof is the Constitution. It says nothing about a standing army. It does talk about militias and a navy.

Militias because that how each area could be protected. We did not have the people at the time for a big army

I wouldn't mind seeing old New York Class battle wagons such as the pre WW2 era Battleship U.S.S. Texas which also saw action in WW1 cruising up and down the coastlines protecting our shores. I liked their old hull designs. It would be nice to see it go out and greet that Iranian Warship that is headed to cruise on the outskirts of our territorial waters.

Sure, they look impressive, but in the modern day a tiny destroyer could sink that battleship in minutes from hundreds of miles away.

That's crap because we had a standing army during the Revolutionary War.

They aren't all that impressive when a sea skimming cruise missile with a half ton warhead cracks them in half like a peanut.

There's a reason why battleships went out of use.

The Missouri is a no-longer sea worthy museum ship. As are the New Jersey and Wisconsin.

The Iowa is a rusting hulk in Suisun Bay.

There is really no point to battleships in modern warfare. Naval guns are more than useless. Marines don't storm beaches needing shore bombardment anymore. Enemy defenses get creamed with guided missiles and cluster bombs and then the Marines seize an area of beach with no defenders by helicopter.

The only real possible battleship design would be the Arsenal Ship, but that is just a upscaled missile cruiser.

It was severely compromised by the war. It was easier to protect towns with the people that lived there

I don't really self-identify as a democrat. And it isn't meant as an insult to soldiers, but yes, Russian people are tough as hell and American soldiers, despite being tough, don't go through as strenuous and rugged training as many other (especially poorer) countries. China would defeat us on sheer numbers. They could mobilize a vastly larger army than ours in a short period of time. Not to mention they have enough manufacturing capacity to facilitate a national takeover of American owned factories and manufacture weapons. America's only hope of fighting China would be to A-bomb their cities.

This doesn't really invalidate my theory, because first, an army totally centralized in the US would still have enough numbers to accomplish such objectives. And secondly, because having troops in South Korea, Iceland, Germany and other ally countries is a waste of money. The military branches could be drastically cut, consolidated and more rigorously monitored and they would probably function better.

As opposed to liberals wanting to control people's property (ie the estate tax, redistributing wealth, ObamaCare, etc.) and people's social lives (i.e. abort your baby! Better love those gays or else! God does not exist! OCCUPY OCCUPY OCCUPY!)? Looks to me like liberals are the only true fascists in this country.

there weren't nuclear weapons in 1915, the united states military is bloated and not efficient

today democrats along with the president believe in fighting smart not hard that is why they employ the use of drones and other better technology to complete the same missions that would be costly in the past

What if Russia did a sneak attack with pre-invasion EMP Electromagnetic Pulse's detonated over our country and it knocked out our electric power and response capabilities causing us to fight them with conventional forces and hardware? Russia troop forces number 21,781,000 million compared to our whopping 3,049,790 million. We would have to start up those old oil burning mothballed WW2 Battleships to get us some Naval firepower lol. No, we need as much money as possible to build up our forces in case something like that would happen.

Oh I suppose perhaps our nuclear ballistic submarines would anhillate Russia?

Not to mention our land based ballistic missiles in hardened sites protected against EMP's.

There is no real substitute for boots on the ground and yeah, you can fly over an individual somewhere in the lawless zones of Afghanistan and put a missile up his butt. But what happens after that?

There is no substitute for man power, in so many instances.

Liberal progressives support those things and I am not a progressive.

Btw, all your comments about gays and abortion just show how fascist you are. You support restriction over freedom and want to control others' lives.

As for God, government should be 100% secular. The existence or lack there of of God should be of no consequence.

You have no (*)(*)(*)(*)ing clue how EMP shielding works or how prevalent it is in military hardware do you?

BTW how long do you think those battleships would last against swarms of anti-ship missiles with no SAMs or long range radar?

It would be cool, but the problem is those old titans cost 2 million$ a day to run in a combat ready format.

Also, despite its impressive figure, Im not sure how well it would hold up against 2-3 Iranian destroyers in a fight. The brits thought though Hood could take on anything, but the Germans turned it into a pile of scrap at the bottom of the ocean within minutes of the battle starting (admittedly they had the Bismark, but it was still pretty sad on the part of the British).
The last century of naval warfare has proven outdated ships have a really bad chance in fights.

Good post; the US will save a small fortune; perhaps enough to make a serious dent in the deficit.
