The question is not one of the exact properties and armament of these things but the need for 2700 of them at all...I wold ask about 100...2700 is wildly more than any legit need.

    Well that begs two questions

How do we know that the 2700 claimed is even real?

And two- how do you establish that 2700 is 'wildly more than any legit need'?

Oh - and three- what makes you think 100 would be the legitimate need?

I could see putting 1000 of them on the Southern border alone.

    The need?

How about house to house search and seizure of private firearms to put the United States in compliance with the U.N. Gun Control edicts?

    Think it through...

This is unsat! Something is NOT a conspiracy theory when the events being discussed ARE real and without credible reason...No, moving the thread is simply censorship of unpopular news.

That is a lot of protection....bullet proof vests and armored shields are more rational than armored vehicles...a LOT of armored vehicles...1 for every 50 gun carrying agents in Homeland Security....

    - - - Updated - - -

Tat is like saying Dec 8th 1941 that because the Navy only had a few hundred ships that the 20,000 they had in 1945 could not exist. The bids are out and some contracts signed.

Really? 2700....one for every 50 agents? Would you think a town with a police force of 50 rates an armored vehicle?...

    Why?

Your issues are pretty much mine but with opposite spin...There are about 100,000 badge wearing armed federal agents in Homeland Security, as you noted, Marine Corp sized, BUT, this...

    is not this..

So why should he be armed the same? And yes, Homeland security put out bids for about 2 billion rounds of ammo over the last 18 months...

Did I miss something- did we ever get a credible source of information?

And as a private discussion board- well what you call censorship is whatever the owner of the boards decides.

Putting who in them? We only have about 3000 border patrol agents on that border?? Does each one get to drive his home at night?

    As to a credible source....http://www.defenseprocurementnews.c...ceives-mrap-installation-order-press-release/

    or

    http://www.businessinsider.com/homeland-security-serving-warrants-mrap-2013-3

I learned long ago NOT to wait for the lefts credible sorces to report anything that might cause questions for the regime.

There are approximately 20,000 Border Patrol agents and I would be willing to put each one of them inside an armored vehicle like this in order to protect them.

My question is why you are opposed to protecting our law enforcement officers.

You know what- this is I believe a very credible press release.

Lets quote from it- shall we?

Navistar Defense, LLC received an award to conduct the installation work associated with its January order to upgrade 2,717 International® MaxxPro® Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles with a new vehicle chassis. The $21 million contract from the U.S. Army Contracting Command is just one of Navistar’s many reset offerings aimed at revitalizing existing defense assets for future missions.

“We are focused on increasing the capabilities of our existing fleet with minimal impact to defense funding,” said Archie Massicotte, president, Navistar Defense. “The vehicle reset line we established for this installation work can also be utilized to restore older vehicles to like-new condition. Therefore, we are poised and ready to reset vehicles returning from deployment – either here at our facility or overseas.”

You want to know the odd thing I noticed from your 'credible source'- not one word about any of these vehicles being for DHS- they are specifically funded by the Army and noted that these are intended for defense purposes.

You know "Businessinsider" had me for a moment- because the name sounds legit .

They are legit enough to provide us with a link for their 'source':
    http://actualidad.rt.com/actualidad/view/88132-mrap-vehiculo-blindado-seguridad-eeuu

Which is an article in Spanish with no links by an agency called "RT"- which turns out to be- WAIT FOR IT- Russia Today.

Yes- the source for this 'news' is "Russia Today"- and who is Russia Today?

    http://www.cjr.org/feature/what_is_russia_today.php?page=all

"....was Russia Today, a fairly new and still mostly obscure English-language cable news channel funded by the Russian government.

Russia Today was conceived as a soft-power tool to improve Russia’s image abroad, to counter the anti-Russian bias the Kremlin saw in the Western media. Since its founding in 2005, however, the broadcast outlet has become better known as an extension of former President Vladimir Putin’s confrontational foreign policy."

True- you are willing to accept any propaganda that Putin feeds his pet news agency- you are that discerning, and more than willing to misinterpret a press release about an Army contract as something dark and devious.

I can see why you have learned not to wait for credible sources.

Yeah, not worried about that. Even with a M-2, or M-19 attachment. The book has been written in Iraq on how to deal with this, and much better armor then this.

Props to Winter Bear for tracking this back to its source!!!!!

Admin edit: I've spent 20 minutes trying to substantiate the story in the link, and everything I find leads back to one post on a survivalist's blog in September of 2012. Until someone can find something current and credible that supports the thread, this belongs in Conspiracy Theories (at best), not Current Events.

This post was from Winter Bear on the same thread that was done previously.

I missed Winter Bears post- did he point out that this appears to have come from a press release purposely or accidentally re-imagined by Russia Today?

Navistar Defense, LLC received an award to conduct the installation work associated with its January order to upgrade 2,717 International® MaxxPro® Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles with a new vehicle chassis. The $21 million contract from the U.S. Army Contracting Command is just one of Navistar’s many reset offerings aimed at revitalizing existing defense assets for future missions.

This is not what either of these threads are claiming. They are both cliaming that DHS is purchasing these armored vehicles.

The contracts call for UP TO 2 billion rounds to be delivered over a period of several years.

And are you saying that you want the people who have to guard the border and protect against terrorist attacks to do so in unarmored vehicles?

    - - - Updated - - -

The contracts specify a upper limit that the companies should be able to provide. They do not state that the government is actually going to buy all those rounds.

We can agree to disagree. Tommy Lee Jones is always compelling to watch and makes any film more interesting. My absolute favorite performance of his is not big screen- it is the mini-series Lonesome Dove.

I would put him in the top twenty of living, working American actors.
