As if they have been willing to work with this president since day one of his presidency. It has been 6 years of republican refusing to work with or compromise with this president. It's about damn time that he realize that they won't work with him on anything and tell them to go screw themselves.

 

What a shame that we can't have a POTUS who claimed he was a Constitutional professor himself doesn't have to flip-flop around.....

 

Because he said it 25 times in speeches, does that make it law? My own guess is that he was trying to defer to the obstructionists. To get them to DO something.

You mean making law from Congress, where law is made, instead of from the WH.

BTW, Obama said he was going to move on this his first year. He had democrats controlling both houses the first year and he did nothing. He did nothing before the 2012 election and nothing before the 2014 election because it would have hurt both his election and the democrats. Now it is apparent that the WH does not care what the people or Congress thinks and will change law as they see fit. Also, you will be paying for this since they will now be covered under our tax law and most are low income so they may end up getting checks from the government instead of paying in as in earned income credits.

It's not "prosecutorial discretion" when a president says with the stroke of his pen that 5 million people are legal to the extent they can stay and will be also provided work permits AND Social Security Cards. That is the same as Amnesty.....because once they start working and paying money into the SS system, they have a right to collect that money when they retire.....which means they cannot ever be deported. Obama knows this and that's why he's providing SS cards. Are they "temporary work permits?" I doubt it. I'll bet there is no expiration date on them.

And can anybody tell me what Congressional legislation he is basing this on? When is the last time Congress has passed Immigration legislation that was signed by a president into law? 28 years ago, that's when. Some Dems like to compare what he's doing to Reagan and George H.W. Bush.....but there's was in response to current Immigration law that was signed into law. BOTH those presidents were working in conjunction with Congress (who has authority over Immigration Laws) Obama has not worked with Congress on Immigration.

There is no prosecutorial discretion in actually
legitimizing law breakers with green cards, work permits and the like.
That is spitting in the face of federal immigration law the Supreme Court must address this so a precedent is not allowed to stand.

Of course they checked with the right people, and knew he could do it legally. This is just more of the fakery, the political theater to fool their constituents, who are just as dumb, and eat it up like cake, as the voters Gruber was referring to. Because Obama is not just deciding not to prosecute people who have broken the law. He is giving them legal status that includes the right to work, the provision of Social Security cards, and even driver’s licenses. That is, he is saying that in fact they are not lawbreakers. This is a step further, which involves actually changing the law.

 

Obama took and oath, the moral and ethical thing to do would be to honor that oath.

Social security cards for illegals is not new. I knew one who had one nearly 20 years ago. It did not permit him to work and I'm not sure of the circumstances but it was legit.

You mean like Eisenhower's executive order deporting 30,000 of them? No previous President has gone as far as this one, going beyond what is legal, deferring deportation, to giving them green cards, social security numbers, and a fast track to stay, rewarding them for illegal activity.
