Ohio restaurant cancels Sunday church discount after outrage from secular organization

Was the restaurant behaving in a discriminatory manner? Is there really a church-state issue here? Is it possible everyone's overheating here?

Just wait until the happy restaurant tries to put up their Christmas decorations this year.

Why not a discount from noon till 2.
That would get them even more people and solve their problem with discrimination.

 

Would be Good if some organization takes up the cause and is able to fund the legal fees of a business that does this type of think if a anti discount organization takes the business to court charging discrimination.

well, private businesses offer discounts to groups that share common characteristics all the time...they're called "Senior Citizen Discounts"

Is offering military discounts such as Lowes and Home Despot does discrimination against those who failed to serve as in the case of someone with life threatening bone spurs??

 

Not really sure why this would be an issue at all. We give discounts to seniors just for being old and yes I can start getting them now but that's another story people get free stuff on their birthdays, there's military discounts, I get a teacher discount at several stores, heck we have places that charge people differently based on their race, this being one of them. And hey, we've just been informed that working for Trump is enough to get you kicked out of a restaurant and it's perfectly legal. So I say let this restaurant keep doing what it's doing.

 

Maybe the aetheists target Christians because Christianity is the most prevalent religion in the US. Aeteists would not target Christians in Israel or Muslims in Saudi Arabia.

 

People without religion in their lives want no one else to be religious.

They see religious people with something that's missing in their own lives and it fills them with envy and rage.

 

Where is there a business that charges people differently based on race?? You need to out them so they can be sued by the government for discrimination. No no no. forget it the Trump administration reversed the Obabama and Bush administration on no racial discrimination.

As long as you’re aware of certain rules covered by federal civil rights law, you can give a senior discount without having to worry about any legal problems. Just keep in mind that businesses that offer products and services to the general public are not allowed to discriminate against customers based on their race, religion, color, or origin. For example, businesses must give the discounts equally to Jewish seniors, or African American seniors. There should be no other restrictions for the senior discount.

So although there’s discrimination involved, it’s not the illegal type. So you can go ahead and offer that early bird senior dinner coupon without any legal worries.

Eh, I'm not so sure. Like I said, the above place I mentioned didn't seem to have an issue with it. And apparently it's legal to kick out Christians from a coffee shop so I don't see the issue with giving them a discount either. We've had Ladies Nights at bars and suchlike and no one's been suing these places for obvious gender discrimination. Oh, and you couldn't be white to get free stuff HERE.

So yeah - there's been enough precedent for a churchgoers 10% discount to be allowed.

 

Actually, it's a good business gimmick. Find any sizable group and offer them a discount after their normal meeting time and you stand a good chance of getting a nice crowd. I'm sure the atheists could have arranged a similar discount after their weekly bible burning and church bombing session.

Gender discrimination is a different law applying to the workplace.

 

Ladies Night is a time set aside at some establishment when women get charged less or nothing at all - it's not an issue of workplace discrimination. They basically want women to come in and offer an incentive to do so even though they didn't have to work at being women; it was a circumstance of birth. Meanwhile, you actually have to choose to go to church. Like I said - I think there's enough precedent set so that this case could be easily won by the restaurant.

Heck, the bigger problem is why they'd want that base. Christians after church are terrible tippers. Apparently Blacks are notorious for not tipping much as well. Oh, and anyone under 21? Forget it.

There was a similar situation over 2000 years ago, when some people got fish and bread for having spent their day of rest listening to a sermon, while others were sleeping late from having partied too much, so missed the free meal.

There was no ACLU or SPLC, or Atheist Socialist Workers Party at that time, so there was no immediate way to claim discrimination, or oppression, so a coalition was formed a few weeks later to democratically vote on this unfair and unequal outcome, which resulted in the preacher being nailed to a crucifix until he was dead.

 

What religion is being discriminated against?
