Seriously, you could not make this stuff up! I am in a state of disbelief.... shock.

Once the guiding light of democracy and fairness, now the diametric opposite. The civilised world needs to look elsewhere for its inspiration.

That penalty is unconstitutional, and it'll be overturned quickly upon appeal.

judge needs to be fired... just imagine if a Muslim Judge said a Christians had to go to a Mosque of his choice for 10 year or go to prison, people would be screaming Sharia law

It's insane that someone even thinks they could get away with this. Now more public money will go to the lawyers.

Incidentally, to the GOPers who oon occassion cherry pick a UK court case and paint the entire UK with the insanity of it. Note how sane people do not do this.

I would gladly serve my time in jail waiting for this to be overturned rather than being forced to attend church. This judge should be fired and forced to attend a Muslim church or attend atheist gatherings.

A little glimpse of Hell on Earth...all-in-all an interesting sentence. Imagine sitting through a decade of it. It would certainly make me think twice in committing crime...10 more years of jesus and bad music...ugh...

Or worse - have to listen to 10 years worth of Democratic and Republican congress-peeps blaming each other for our socioeconomic demise. Now THAT would be cruel and unusual punishment!

Indeed. He will probably find work and a girlfriend not named Bubba while he is at it.

It's funny that our PF atheists would rather be subjected to a shiv or a stiffy instead of a room full of people who might love them in a non-butt-rape kind of way.

This was a 16 year old kid who made a fatal mistake, not a psycho. I think the judge acted in the best interest of justice and should be commended for his wisdom and compassion. I think you are the psycho here champ. Get some help.

considering the kid is from a very christian state, im pretty sure the kid is already accustomed to attending church lol, just saying of course. and to be honest, if the kid wanted to he could have appealed this and still can but he nor his lawyer have made a motion too. now had this been an atheist or muslim teen who did something and was sentenced to 10 years in a religion he or she doesnt agree with, then yeah id pretty much say that would be very seriously wrong.

but the kid is already a christian 9 times out of 10, so thats why you guys who hate this are against it and the kid himself hasnt said anything back and accepted the terms.

and another thing, the judge didnt sentence him to 10 years of a christian church, he said the "church of his choice". so if the kid wanted to join a muslim church for the next 10 years he is allowed to as no specific church or religion was mentioned.

Can you direct me to a Muslim church? or a Jewish church, for that matter? Not a Mosque or a Synagogue, a "Church" The word "Church" in a religious context has connotations to one specific religion.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say we were the "guiding light of democracy and fairness." Our revolution functioned that way briefly, but things like Manifest Destiny showed that we weren't that different from our predecessors.

It's more of a relative thing. America is certainly more culturally evolved than most of the world, but we're behind some of our peers on certain things.

Weird religious connections to government aren't limited to America, however. The UK still uses government money to fund religious schools, for example.

I'm going to post both of your statements here to allow you to marinate in the rank hypocrisy of them.
