We'll see. Right now my state is not giving people the second dose so that more people can get the first dose. I am not so sure that is really going to be effective in immunizing them since it is the second dose that gives them the actual protection

~ Sounds just like a Gestapo government. Should we lock people in their homes ? Why are big corporations like Wal-Mart allowed to so business but not a small cafe or clothing store ? The dumbing down continues ...
Pay attention to China ! This is what communist control is .

    { China does all these things and people are still dropping dead on the street. }

It's a difficult one. The vaccine does give some immunity after one dose. Is it better to vaccinate 1M with one dose giving 50% efficacy or vaccinating 500K with two doses giving 95% efficacy? The longer it takes to vaccinate the more time it gives for the virus to mutate. There is evidence that even one dose is enough in the short term to cause the symptoms to be mild as opposed to needing hospilization so not actually fully immune but saves the person

Masks & lockdowns work where I live. From hundreds of cases per day & 800 dead in a few months to virtually no new cases in months & life virutally back to normal.

Masks & lockdowns work if you do it properly. I have witnessed the success first hand.

Well good point. I also forgot about the numerous BLM riots around the entire country most of 2020.

And yet the virus is running it's course and is not declining in new cases as we expected.

I thought I already told you, opinion is acceptable in the absence of fact, not in conflict with it.

    You may quote me.

The uneducated use "opinion" to hide behind. They don't understand that opinion is only acceptable in the absence of fact and that by screaming "opinion" they only show their shallowness.

why is it that when a Trumpist walks down teh street he is immediately identifiable?

Without a hat or banner in this crowd we would still all know they were Trumpists.

    Contact tracing does not work.

I work in an educational institution. We receive daily notifications of reports of infection. We are told the day the infection was reported. We are told the last day of presence on campus. We cannot be told the name of the infected person due to privacy concerns. We are not even told the locations accessed by the infected person as that might offer clues as to their identity.

Politicians in Los Angeles imposed curfews, lock downs, mask mandates, business closures, fines, cut off water and power for businesses that were not lucky enough to be deemed "essential"

Los Angeles is among the worst hit metros. Do we pay attention to actual results or some random guy on the internet?

Well said. Let me add to your post for the benefit of the other poster that the death rate for regular flu is higher on average than that of COVID. The difference is that COVID is way way more contagious so there are way way more cases and deaths. If we had behaved as we do with regular flu, all this hyperbole and hysteria would be unnecessary.

Yes you did. There was no need to repeat yourself. Nor is there any need to tell me that your opinion is fact while mine is only opinion. Both of us have opinions and they conflict with one another.

Absolutely false. When some physical phenomenon is observed the goal of science is to explain it and perhaps exploit it. The very first thing that science does is offer a hypothesis. This is another word for a guess or an opinion. After additional evidence and analysis it may become a theory or a more mature and valuable guess or opinion. When the theory is proved then it is finally a fact. We call it the scientific method. It always starts with an opinion.

    hypothesis:
a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.

    opinion:
a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.

With all respect, sincerely, and without malice, I offer you these words of wisdom that my father shared with me as I grew.

Menor59, he said, " Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt."

    Peace
