We know how much liberals absolutely hate discrimination and we know how much they love the law, especially when it comes to wedding cakes. But I’m curious about their feelings regarding the discrimination of an American right based upon a person’s age. This kid has every right to buy a gun legally but he’s being denied even though he’s in a protected class: Age.

You may have a point there! That section was written with older Americans in mind, but if the language and the legislative intent is not made clear enough.... this may be illegal discrimination. I need to learn more.

I wondered when this would happen. Didn't take long. I did some research and apparently age is only a protected class for those over 40 years old. However, that's what the courts are for, and some new precedent may happen due to this. I find it difficult to tell a human being they can become cannon fodder on the front lines of battle but not buy alcohol or a a gun. We as a society have to decide once and for all what the definition of adulthood is and be consistent across the board. Fortunately the transitional period is over in a couple of years or they'd be a very PISSED OFF electorate forever but likely they'll soon forget about it after a couple of beers. But that doesn't make the issue any less or more unfair. What are these folks? Children or adults? Be consistent.

If you are going to post this sort of things, it would be good to do some research as not to make yourself look silly. He isn't in a "protected class."

Now, if he have money and patience, or the NRA decides to take his case to the SCOTUS, perhaps he can argue from the 2nd Amendment perspective.

I bought my first shotgun when I was 13. When I was 16 and could drive, I kept it in the truck when I was in school and went hunting afterward. It wasn't crazy or the exception, I was just one of a hoard of people who did so. Nobody even thought about it or cared. Our world wasn't full of either whackos or snowflakes. White privilege.

Try telling that to a gay couple asking for a wedding cake from a business that doesn't want to sell it to them. That bakery was fined $135,000 and forced out of business.

I think this 20 year old is citing the same law in Oregon that got the bakery in trouble - No discrimination based upon age, race, gender, national origin, or sexual orientation is allowed for businesses open to the public.

Let's see how far he gets in court. Any fool can sue someone. Winning, is another thing.

If he is deemed an adult by the courts, in the absence of federal legislation preventing him/her from buying this person has a punchers chance of knocking out the opposition, given how courts have ruled on discrimination the past few years. Laugh if you like. Guns, like twinkies and cakes on the shelf are stock items and not custom orders. Now if he wants a scope mounted on it........tough luck.........he''ll have to take it somewhere else.

No one has a right to compel another person to labor.

had we simply adhered to that simple principle all of this crap could have been avoided.

the free market would have eventually driven the racist/bigoted shop owners from the commons.

In oregon, Dicks is running afoul of their public accommodation law:

    Discrimination in Public Accommodation
A place of public accommodation is defined in state law as any place that offers the public accommodations, advantages, facilities or privileges, whether in the nature of goods, services, lodging, amusements or otherwise. It is illegal to discriminate in places of public accommodation on the basis of race, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, national origin, religion, marital status, physical or mental disability, or age (18 years of age and older).
