Heard there were arrests in 5 cities overnight, lots of violence including attacks on police in San Francisco with knives slashing their hands and faces.

OWS has ceased to be a unified movement. It now consists of, idealists who actually want something done to see that inequities in income are addressed, leftover hippies who just want to protest for the sake of protesting, spoiled college kids who don't want to repay their college loans, homeless people staying at the encampments in order to get the free food, theives who are intent on preying on the occupiers, rapists and molestors who are looking for victims and anarchists who want to tear down the government.

While the original idealists may be non-violent, many of those who came later are hell bent on having a violent confrontation with the police.

If the police are smart, they will us the minimuma amount of force needed to remove the people from the site. Let any violence be on the part of the protestors.

 

Please describe what you would consider "minimal amount of force" to control thousands of people. They have already asked hundreds of times please, pretty please, and now pretty please with sugar on it.

That's quite an odd statement, since OWS has denounced violence from the start.

There was only one incident of violence in Portland last night. A man threw an object at a police officer and was quickly pushed out the the crowd to police to be arrested.

 

Not saying I don't believe you. Not at all. But could you give a link to a story on that?

Update: police and protesters are confronting each other on the corner of fourth and main. Police have closed the parks and are now threatening several hundred protesters with chemical agents and impact weapons.



Protesters remain peaceful and defiant, and the police are In full riot gear. I dont know how much longer the standoff will last. I will keep updating.
