I taught Geometry for 16 years at a high school. I never ignored the findings of mathematicians from any ethnic, race, sex or national origin. Including the Egyptians. To ignore the accomplishments of European backgrounds is to ignore math and science as well. To call European mathematicians racist is also pure door knob thinking. It solves absolutely nothing since the real inventor of Math is God. We are just discovering something that already existed, 1 + 1 = 2. It's not racist to get the right answer.

It is no longer a civilization. It is an anti-civilization. Civilizations produce. All this thing does is consume and destroy itself.

If this is true, it is ridiculous. 25 yrs ago, when I was completing my graduates in Comp Sci, I was the only white person in the class. The US needs to breed more STEM students.

Can't do that. Acronyms are part of the white supremacy culture now too.

Ethnomathmatics is the new Ebonics. It's like America is entering the Twilight Zone or something, where being Smart and Successful is Racist and being Stupid and a Thug is to be Honored and Revered. RACISM! is EVERYWHERE

This is another of those stories out of FOX News that does not square with reality. It actually makes many of the other posters sound really silly, once you know the full story.

There is an Oregon Department of Education newsletter called the Math Educator Update. In the last issue there was an advertisement for a seminar on teaching mathematics to Black, Latinx, and multilingual students. It is about interacting with and motivating students.

If you took effort to look up what you think you are talking about, Instead of just repeating the latest silliness coming out of FOX, you would see how silly you sound.

This is why people voted for Trump, this is why they'll vote for his populist successor.

Because they will believe whatever silliness comes out of FOX News? No matter how far afield it is from reality?

Notice how all the usual hatreds have come out on this thread. Even funnier in that the story that they are all reacting to does not square with reality. It is a FOX fabricated story.

Anything that makes you expound on WHERE you got something from is racist.

People don't like to publicize stupidly?

Same reason we didn't hear about Hunters laptop or the investigation into him for years.

Honestly though, this is non-required MICRO course for TEACHERS. It means this is a probably one 3 hour lecture on this subject
conducted at a teacher conference in the middle of dozens of other lectures on different subjects.

So once agin, the award goes to ...

If this was a micro lesson titled "Why America is superior and why illegals will risk life to get here", you'd probably care a little more, huh?

    Even if it was elective?

    I bet you would.

    That's not whataboutism, that's a hypothetical.

And your lack of response is all that anyone needs to know that I am right.

So take your hypocrisy elsewhere unless you can have an honest debate like adults. Your bias is preventing you from thinking clearly.

Thank you for pointing that out. This is based on the old concept that not all children learn the same way. These kinds of workshops apply to all areas of study, not just math, and they've been around for decades.

The criticisms of this approach show a lack of understanding of the topic. One of the main goals of the workshop is, "Valuing and elevating student discourse in the math classroom." Engaging students in discussions can increase their interest and understanding of the subject. This kind of thing is important to all cultures, but not all cultures approach learning from the same perspectives or experiences.

The way the author frames this as some kind of liberal wokenism is laughable, but the problem really lies in readers making assumptions and accepting information as accurate without thinking critically about it.

I had a job one time aboard a ship installing electronic gear and part of the job was welding foundations for equipment racks. One of the guys assigned laid out where the racks would go while other guys worked on pulling electrical cables to the assigned racks. Somehow the shipfitter got his measurements wrong and we wound up wasting thousands of dollars uninstalling the installation and redoing it right. The outcome: The jerk who cost the government thousands wound up a supervisor.

Another incidence of bad math I can think of involved cutting a cam so that a gun mount on a ship would not fire if part of the ship was an obstruction. Luckily this error was discovered before the ship fired it's guns by a sailor and saved the ship from firing on itself.
