I often post about things I don't care about. I do this for entertainment.

Kaepernick is fighting for his "freedom"? Who is holding this wealthy son of the white suburbs down or back?
He can do what he wants. He can say what he wants.

He is this generation's Cindy Sheehan. And will be remembered about as well.

Colin Kaepernick Is Recipient of 2017 Sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award

Steadfast in his fight for social justice and committed to his beliefs no matter the cost, Colin Kaepernick is the recipient of the 2017 Sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award
By Michael Rosenberg November 30, 2017

“If I was walking down the highway with a quarter in my pocket and a briefcase full of truth, I’d be so happy.” – Muhammad Ali, Sports Illustrated, Feb. 19, 1968

Colin Kaepernick made his truth known when he first decided not to stand for the national anthem. He had a lot of football left to play and a lot more money to make when he made his decision. It was late August, 2016. People who were anonymous in life had become famous in death. Philando Castile. Eric Garner. Alton Sterling. Freddie Gray. They were tragic symbols of a society that had taken a terribly wrong turn. As the anthem played ahead of the 49ers' preseason game against the Texans, Kaepernick, San Francisco's 28-year-old quarterback at the time, quietly took a seat on the bench.

It took two weeks for anyone from the media to ask him about it. Kaepernick explained that he was making a statement about inequality and social justice, about the ways this country “oppresses black people and people of color.”

“To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way,” he added. “There are bodies in the street,” he said then, “and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Looking the other way is what many, maybe most, people do when encountering social injustice or legal injustice. They would just rather not think about it, as ignorance is bliss. Many would prefer their conscience be bound and quiet.

Kaepernick's conscience is rather active. I respect him.

As I mentioned before the NFL television contracts runs for another four years and the league will make billions in that time.

Now that the NY Giants are making changes at the top, it will hopefully make the team more competitive. That will generate a great deal of interest and attention into the league and bring in far more revenue.

So right wingers need not shed a tear for those poor billionaire owners. ;)

    CK is an honorable man.

Those who vilify him are uncomfortable in the presence of honorable men.

Billionaire NFL owners, being typical corporate welfare queens, have been making billions in welfare from the TV contracts. As usual, they shelter their resources in overseas tax free accounts and pay nothing in taxes while you pay a large portion of your earnings into the government in order to finance profitable wars. So don't shed too many tears for those welfare queens.
