How can you not be angry, when the target of the advert's ire is not the group most in need of misogyny correction, but is instead the group (western males) who are the least given to oppression, misogyny, and gender inequality?

It's positively vomitous. Reeks of privilege and ignorance. It's literally like some medieval king having no interest whatsoever in the starving peasants dying at his castle gate, because some of his fine nobles are lacking feathers in their four poster beds.

    https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/dad...rying-guns-hey-gillette-offend-200917178.html

Dad and his children pose for family photo carrying guns:
'Hey Gillette, does this offend you?'

A gun-happy family is joining the resistance against Gillette for its divisive ad targeting toxic masculinity.

Graham Allen, a U.S. Army vet and the host of Rant Nation on Blaze TV, posted on his Facebook page a family photo shot in a field of flowers. He carries a weapon over his shoulder and his young daughter is flanked by her two brothers who hold a handgun and a rifle. “Practicing our ‘toxic masculinity,'” wrote Allen with an Amerian flag emoji. “Hey Gillette, does this offend you? I’ll raise my kids the way I believe they should be…thanks for your advice.”

Translation: an ad aimed at Western markets doesn't ride my little hobby horse about Islam, so I'm throwing a tantrum. Triggered indeed.

The ad also didn't address illegal immigration, the destruction of working class wages and conditions, the drugs crisis, inner city schools, the systematic abuse of children by the Catholic Church, ebola and mass murder in Syria and the Central African Republic. Probably a few other things the ad missed that I didn't mention.

Care to stamp your feet about those too? No?

Here is a wild idea. Discuss what is actually in the ad. Maybe the bit where it encourages respect for women, or discourages violence, or maybe even where it encourages men to call out or stop negative behaviours in other males.

There is privilege and ignorance by the truckload on this thread, but it isn't coming from the ad makers.

Harvard violates Title IX by adopting guidelines that call ‘traditional masculinity’ harmful, complaint says.

Gillette sounds like the Perfect Product for an Emotionally Immature (Trump) Beta Male.

    Was at the range today.

Saw a grandfather teaching his 8 year old grand daughter to shoot. She did well.

    Have you seen the movie?

    It isn't about Mahar.
It is about a statement regarding feminist and extremist feminist
and comes to mind with this discussion of toxic masculinity.

If you have NOT seen the movie, forgive that it is Bill Mahar and enjoy
Shannon Tweed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shannon_Tweed as a professor of feminism.

I believe it is very well done and well written. Funny too.
The B Movie look is part of its' intention I do believe.
It parodies many movie scenes like African Queen and Star Wars .
Very recommended with today's discussion of Toxic Masculinity.

I can see your point. However, it wasn't me who decided to have Gillette jump into the moral guidance arena. It was Gillette. If they haven't learned the value of "Just shut up and sell razors." then who is going to teach this to them, if not their customers. Do you really want to turn on the television and watch 21 minutes of moralizing and preaching every hour? If that is your thing, then why not simply watch the Benny Hinn Network? Look, one's religion or moral constructs are like one's penis. It is okay to have one, but I object to having you wagging it in front of my face.

And you may not care if corporations behave badly, but I do. I still haven't bought a single Exxon product after they spilled goop all over Prince William Sound and walked away when they decided that the EPA fines were cheaper than cleaning up their mess. Corporations should be held accountable, and if the government is too feckless to hold someone accountable, then the only accountability left in society is by your and my actions.

OMG, what if they were priming a stock buyback?

"The Producers" comes to mind for some reason.

    Called it:

Gillette says it's satisfied with sales after controversial ad

New York (CNN Business)Procter & Gamble said Gillette sales haven't budged after its controversial #MeToo ad -- but it's calling the campaign a big success.

Gillette's sales following the commercial were "in-line with pre-campaign levels," P&G CFO Jon Moeller said on a call with reporters Wednesday. Its subscription business, Gillette Shave Club, continued to grow sales and add new subscribers.

The ad challenges men to turn away from toxic masculinity, and received "unprecedented levels" of media coverage and customer engagement, Moeller said.

"It's a part of our effort to connect more meaningfully with younger consumer groups," he said.

    ... https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/23/business/gillette-ad-procter-and-gamble-stock/index.html

All of the attention this thing generated ended up being either beneficial or neutral, but not detrimental to their sales. Everyone who read about this in social media, got white hot with anger and went to vent about it everywhere, like here, helped Gillette in the long run and did precisely what Gillette wanted them to do - bring attention to their brand.
