I have seen these birds. This past May when I was at Kauai for 11 days, during the twilight, these noisy birds flew just above me. It was just dark enough to conceal their color, but they flew by nonetheless talking to each other. Some of my step kids explained how the birds know just where to go to sleep for the night. For me, they were not a bother. But watch the Video since Kauai is working hard to solve their problem with the birds.
The video mentions the birds eating the lychee. I had not heard of Lychee until this past May. It was not my first time at Kauai but it was my first time of eating Lychee. It is okay. It is available at the stores on the Island and a lot of people acquired a taste for it. My grandson merely 3 really enjoys it. So does my daughter. It was fun seeing the video since I know the places they speak of.
This is a complicated issue. It's too bad those cute parakeets are most likely going to have to be killed.
Actually, watch the video and learn how they do not plan to kill the birds. During the day, they fly off to feeding grounds. I only saw them at the close of day. They favor some trees adjacent to the ocean. There are plenty of trees in the mountains so I don't know why they fly to sea level and locate in those palm trees.
Introduce an STD into their population. We had a neighborhood locally that had a much worse problem. Several hundred buzzards set up home in their neighborhood and nothing could be done to them, including disturbing them, until their whatever season--mating baby raising or whatever the hell it was--ended.
I wonder what strategy they're going to try to use to deal with the homeless population: Homelessness in Hawaii People say it's not the same thing, but isn't it?
Somebody suggested they doctor the birds birth control. There are people working on the problem that refuse to kill them.
Fortunately, Obamacare will provide that birth control for free I probably wouldn't mind them that much personally. I find flocks of birds interesting generally. Living on the edge of the woods with a field behind the house, we can get huge swarms of birds during migration season just off my backyard. They don't bother me but my across the street "Somebody should do something about that" neighbor comes running over, "Damn birds making all that noise. Somebody should do something about that. Shoot a gun in the air or something." The only ones that make me nervous are when flocks of buzzards show up because I assume either something is dead or am afraid what happened to that other neighborhood might happen to mine. Even 30 or so buzzards hoping around the backyard can be unnerving.
Parrots in New York City ! I saw them, wild and free, they make their nests in better areas, near homes of very high value for some odd reason. Not Ghetto dwelling birds, and very aggressive ! http://forgotten-ny.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Parrotscover.jpg
