Yes, she can scream it out in the halls of the Congress and assume everyone can hear it. Good idea, and I agree.

The media does not answer to the government, so if they don't want to carry her water, they certainly don't have to. People can look it up themselves. Its all in the internet.

She said the unspoken... She acknowledged in a moment of pique that the news orgs are hers to direct, to demand better coverage and more flattering coverage because they are entirely beholden to her and the NDP.

I'd say facts, not in evidence. I'd question the autonomy of many of the current news orgs given their constant fluff and softball approach to democrats in any office these days. they are in the tank with the NDP. We know it, they know it, and Nancy finally said it out loud in public.

Indeed, and I do think the comment was a bit of a cheap shot. But there's a bit of truth in it - she can't come knocking on everyone's door to tell them about the bill. That information gets propagated by the media. It's up to politicians to find the strategy which means that information gets out effectively, but if the media is distracted by its usual shiny objects, that becomes a bit harder to do. But again, on balance, I think it was a silly remark to make.

Lol! You are, at very least, very entertaining!
Just curious, but why would you embroil yourself in messy American politics? It's bad enough living here and being bombarded with it, but you really could just ignore it all and pay attention to British politics. They do seem to be similar, though. Do you see many similarities in the political scene from Britain to America?
Sorry to pry, I just like to learn from people and perspectives that are alien to my "normal" experiences.
Excellent hedging, by the way! One could mistake you for a hedgehog! lol

If she held a press conference where she explained the bill and hit the highlights for an hour or so, you know 100% of the main news orgs would offer that footage. They might offer clips on tv but the full video would be available online. Also: Congress has its own websites she could publish an indepth explanation on.

Perhaps you missed the point then. Nancy wasn't scolding the media for not actually relaying the parts of the bill to the public. She wouldn't EVEr want that to happen because so many of them are stupid, power grabbing efforts by her party. She doesn't want folks to know what is in the legislation. her point was that the media had to generate public support for the passage of the spending package, sight unseen, and force the public to respond favorably to that. That isn't anything but propaganda at that point. Sorry, but "propagating" does infer the root so you were somewhat correct in your assessment.

The remark wasn't silly. Her remark was dangerous to how our republic operates. The idea that a free press exists doesn't mean that government has the operation control of it. This isn't the UK.

Pelosi thinks her bill is the best thing after sliced bread, and she is disappointed the media is not selling it for her, but if they are not interested then so be it. As someone said, it is really her job to sell it and she has to find a way to do it. Whining about it won't get it done.

Well at the moment British politics is its own disaster.... My wife is American, which is part of it. I'm also fascinated by irrationality and there's a lot to see of that in US politics; all those people who have no irony in saying that the US is the greatest country the world has ever seen, for example. I'm curious to what extent you can change people's minds by dialogue; I'm morbidly curious about people who are completely closed-minded. And finally I was and am genuinely appalled by Trump and what he stands for. There are many things you could bring up, but the fact that he has his steaks so well done that they literally rock on the plate, and with ketchup..... It's a nightmare you can't wake up from.

This is inaccurate. Trump did not "do all of them". I don't remember one time he appeared on CNN, MSNBC or any other channel other than Fox, where he was infrequently if ever challenged. As someone from another post stated, you made the statement, I'm calling you out on it to prove that one.
And the Dems did play if wisely, cutting down on the amount of fodder for the opponent. This thread is an example. Pelosi says one thing and someone takes it completely out of context and mis-represents it.
And, yes, before you say it, they did it to Trump also.

I wonder if you're right. Would news channels really broadcast an hour of wonky detail? The problem with having the detail on Congressional websites is that virtually no-one would go there. But I agree that's part of her job - to work out how to get the information out, and find a way to work productively with the media to that end.

In post 8 I laid out in detail another possible way of understanding the interaction. You're welcome to explain why you think my interpretation cannot be true.

Then push through a clean bill. You need a real infrastructures bill. You can throw in pipes, research, Solar and EV, but get rid of all the other garbage.

It's absolutely trade issue. If the United States shutdowns or slows down its trade, then there's a butterfly affect on international trade. I don't understand how you can say it's not a trade issue. What did you ports were meant to facilitate?

Oh so we got some truth. Dude they were playing it down the whole time, and then it got worse when Biden took office. Go back and look at all the inflation threads where Democrats were pretending like it wasn't happening.

Supply has taken a beating everywhere. The number of companies that have gone bankrupt is pretty astonishing. I'm looking at 4 Nasdaq companies that just declared in the last couple days.

Why are there a record amount of freighters of the coast of California?
    https://www.popsci.com/technology/record-breaking-container-ships-awaiting-entry/

"The cause of the backup, say port officials, is strictly-enforced Covid restrictions at the ports, including those in Asia, as well as unprecedented demand for goods from China, South Korea, and other Asian exporting countries. The top items on backed-up ships include furniture, auto parts, and textiles."

"The implementation of COVID restrictions caused many of the problems at the ports. For example, officials noted that every shift change for port workers requires new protocols, including the cleaning of crane compartments and equipment, daily health screenings for staff, and other inefficiencies caused by social distancing measures."

I got friends in trucking that say the same thing. It's the Federal Covid-19 policy. The whole economy recovering from shutdowns notion was a root cause in 2020, but the procedures are slowing down the process for off-loading and on-loading. If the policies keep backing things up, companies are gonna go bankrupt, and then there is less supply. Every Republican has been starting threads about the supply-side economics for over year. We understand it. It's these harsh Covid policies that need to end. And I understand it's a double edged sword for Democrats cause they've been extremely zealous with Covid-19 policy, but that infrastructure bill isn't going to give us any significant pop.

    Thank you for your perspective!
What are you saying, that America ISN'T the greatest country the world has ever seen??!?!?!?!?
    Just kidding!
I do love America. It's kinda like a marriage. You may love your spouse, and be dedicated to them, but we all have flaws to deal with. Those people who claim that they never argue must live apart!
I agree, NO KETCHUP ON STEAK!

I like the spouse comparison. It's one thing to tell your wife she's the most beautiful woman in the world, but to tell everyone else that your wife is more beautiful than their's... not very cool.

It is the pure arrogance of elected officials, namely Pelosi who represented “the end of bipartisanship”.

No. News Channels won't broadcast an hour of wonky detail. You might get that on Fox Business and, maybe CNBC, but it's going to be a biased analysis.

I'm of the belief that every website should provide links and citations to the bill at minimum. When Biden came out with his bill, I just outlined and summarized each section real quick. I don't know why reporters don't make a video to accompany their articles, because that'd provide a more engaging experience as opposed to the 2 minute segments with advertisements that plays in the background as one quickly scrambles for the mute key.

The problem with a whole discussion is all the BS discretionary spending. I don't know how anything will truly be allocated in the current bill, and frankly, I don't think politicians wants us to know. The whole point of these large bills is to pack as much garbage into it with the justified expenditures so nobody is wise to money going to all the special interest groups. Then you got the whole bidding process that benefits the donors, and gives Nancy Pelosi a pop to her stock portfolio when the contract assignment is announced. Even the real infrastructure provisions leave it open as to whether money will be spent on new infrastructure or entirely on repairs. And I lean towards most money going to repairing areas that are on the way down economically.

Even if they wanted to work, I think podcasting is the only avenue to have a long, interesting discussion about legislation.

Making use of the media is not a bad idea unless you make a fool out of yourself. With the pandemic, which was on an election year, Trump made daily "briefings", which were basically campaign speeches, and he got them for free since the media was willing to cover them. After a while his handlers yanked him when they realized it was doing more harm than good for his re-election chances.

In the beginning of his presidency he was criticized for not giving ANY press briefings, and later his admin went 300 days without a single WH press briefing.

As for CNN/MSNBC, which do lean left, he didn't dare give any pressers, like Biden is unlikely to give any with FOX.

Its not a trade issue. I don't know where you get that.

I didn't have to go back, because I was around in 2020 and they predicted inflation as the economy comes back after a disaster year. If you were not aware, then thats on you.

Yes, 2020 was pretty harsh. Lumber prices were through the roof, but that has normalized for the most part, but some other industries are still playing catch up.

CNN would say its the best thing ever, Fox would say she's the devil, they'd both go round and round and round about for a week.

She and the other Dems have AMPLE opportunity to SELL IT THEMSELVES. She has a weekly national press conference, the are on the news daily, they do the weekly Sunday talk shows, they get plenty of interviews.

There is NOTHING mischaracterized in the exchange, she was quite clearly chastising the press for not selling her agenda. That is NOT their job PERIOD. That she thinks it is is quite telling as I said previously. It is that type of attitude that turns off independent voters and why the Dems especially Biden are sinking like a rock with them.

If you don't think it's a big deal and are OK with the press becoming, many would argue it already is, a propaganda arm of the Democrats then I can imagine you don't think it a big deal.

It is quite accurate and proved her expectations that the purpose of the Press is to sell her agenda, have you read the story this morning about Curic and her editing of RBG's comments?
