Former Vice President Mike Pence on Saturday harshly criticized former President Donald Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, widening the rift between the two men as they prepare to battle over the Republican nomination in next year's election.

“President Trump was wrong," Pence said during remarks at the annual white-tie Gridiron Dinner attended by politicians and journalists. "I had no right to overturn the election. And his reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day, and I know history will hold Donald Trump accountable.”

“Make no mistake about it, what happened that day was a disgrace," Pence said in his Gridiron Dinner remarks. "And it mocks decency to portray it any other way.”

Well well well.... look who's trying to become a real boy?

What a freaking hypocrite..... Why don't you honor your subpoena from the SC and do YOUR part to ensure that history holds him accountable, Hangin' Mike??

Doing the right thing for a single day on 1/6 doesn't make up for the other 1,459 days you failed...

The danger to the democratic governmental system of the United States of America from an authoritarian demagogue remains. What Mr. Michael Pence does or does not say has no real effect upon the number of my fellow Americans who are willing to vote for someone who appeals to their fears and prejudices.

    Regards, stay safe 'n well.

Interesting. The amount of republicans who called the J6 event appalling right after the actual event, those who resigned from the administration, and those who sided with the J6 committee are all gone or silenced.
It's weird, remember when all these republicans INCLUDING Trump spoke out against the J6 Insurrection?
    Seems so long ago.
Pence is going with the only lane available to him in Republican Party: stand up, moral, religious guy.

Obviously seeing what the Republican Party has become, having shut down all those people and the religious right having shockingly gotten into bed w Trump for pure politics, the Pence lane is actually a dead end. He probably sealed his fate with that comment

The lack of moral character displayed by the contortionist routine Mike Pence is "playing" is as hypocritical as it gets. Now, I will say this for Trump, he's never tried to claim any high moral ground as a matter of fact he drags all into the gutter.... but Pence, what a ****ing skid mark.

J6 "insurrection"??? LOLOL... a disorganized, unarmed bunch of protesters occupying ONE BUILDING for a few hours is an "insurrection"???? LOL... if the occupation of ONE BUILDING by a relatively small group of unarmed, disorganized protesters for a few hours is an "insurrection"... then we have the weakest government in the history of the world.

I think his fate was sealed the day he didn't turn himself over to the Mango Mob on 1/6 for some street justice...

The only "lane" available to him in the MAGA party is off-ramp....

But, if he can make it to a debate stage and point out the unbelievably long list of flaws with his former boss, that's a tiny win for America... Always better coming from former employees, much like the 1/6 committee hearings...

""I had no right to overturn the election"".... Electoral Count Act of 1887... he actually did have the right to overturn the fraudulent election... Pence is wrong.

That so true and so funny.
    Thanks for the laugh.

    Back to Pence.
One also has to be a schmuck to believe anything Pence claims about his role leading up to J6.

You and other conservative posters, with the help of Tucker, might try as hard as you can to rewrite 1/6/21 history. It will not work. The ACTUAL history books will remember that day as what it was. A desperate attempt of a defeated president to stay in power despite the will of the voters, that almost succeeded to turn the US into a dictatorship. His fanclub, who aided him in the attempt, will not be remembered kindly in the history books.

Jan 6 was a minor incident. It was a small group of protesters, unarmed and disorganized, that occupied ONE BUILDING for a few hours. Your youth keeps you ignorant.

In 1971, I was a young Soldier stationed at Fort Belvior, just south of DC. ONE MILLION anti war demonstrators took over the Wahington Monument and ground for miles around. Some of the demonstrators took over the Chain Bridge and threw trash cans into the street to disrupt traffic. Hundreds of commuters left their blocked cars and violence ensued. My buddies and I set up an M60 Machine Gun on the bridge and the protesters and commuters ran away (They had no idea we had no ammunition.)

A few hundred protesters at the Capitol, occupying ONE BUILDING for a few hours, shrinks to insignificance in comparison.

If our national government can be threatened by ONE BUILDING being occupied for a few hours... then we have the weakest government in the history of the world.

It was not just a "minor" incident. It was the culmination of two months of concerted efforts to overturn a lawful election. It started with the calls to state election official to "find" votes for Trump, just enough to give him the EC votes of the state. It ended with an attempt to stop the certification of the election by Congress, so that the House would re-elect Trump as the president, based on the GOP holding the majority of states. If Pence had given in, we'd probably now have Trump as a president and we might have been in a civil war. Or, do you think the Dem voters would have just taken Trump's power grab and sent a nice "thank you" note?

Ye... "FIND" votes that existed... not "CREATE votes that didn't. "FIND" votes that were hidden by the Dems. If you think that the US Government can be overthrown by a small, disorganized group of unarmed protesters, then you must think that the US governemnt is totall weak and useless. A "civil war" would take HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of ARMED folks ready to tak =e over transportation hubs, communications centers and military/police facilities. NOTHING like that occurred.

Pence most certainly wanted Trump reelected.

If he didn't he would have spoken out against it weeks before J6 and not played stupid.

He hoped and prayed with Mother that the fake electoral scheme could be pulled off so he could stay in power as his VP.
The creepy, spinless weasel knew in mid-Dec that there was no way in hell it was legal.

Interesting... I never saw that article and I OBVIOUSLY wouldn't read a book by ole' Q-tip head.

    Here's my favorite snip

    SNIP
As we ended the call, he said with a sigh, “If we prove we won a state and Pelosi certifies anyway . . . I don’t think we can let that happen.” “You’ll figure it out,” he added.
    ENDSNIP

Mob-boss speak for "consider doing something illegal for me, will ya?"

    EDIT

Ooo... I have a new contender for favorite snip

    SNIP
At that his mood darkened. “These people cheated, and you want to play by Marquess of Queensberry rules.”
    ENDSNIP

There is ZERO chance Mango would get that reference correct... I'm guessing it was "Marcus from Queens" rules before Pence cleaned it up...

Which seems counterintuitive, since that would result in himself being reelected too.

If that turns out to be the case, his single day of service to this country is even greater than I understood.... You'd think he'd mention that personal sacrifice in his book...
