They are all but nonexistent in Texas where the incident under discussion happened.

That's debatable. He could not do as they advise. He didn't say it was a law. It also might take an intruder some time to penetrate his home if it is set up properly, in which case it might give him time. None of that detracts from the argument that guns aren't the only problem in mass shootings.

Are you suggesting that Texas as the entire state sells guns without following the required background check?

i am not going to through your post history to find this "link" you claim shows evidence of your nonsense.

You can call it moot, but its the law over there, and it is strictly tracked. As for the rest, I won't repeat myself. They have strict gun laws, and they are an example of how such laws and gun ownership can co-exist.

Correct, but then again, you don't really need guns to defend yourself in Switzerland. They have guns for sport, not because they fear for their lives.

You're ignoring my point, which I have now made in three subsequent postings. If you don't want to address it, fine, move on then.

National defense is a form of "to defend yourself". It is.
    Sport is personal use.

So which one do you believe? Or is it both?

And so guns are not the only reason that mass shootings occur. This was the original point made.

The only point you have made about Swiss gun laws is showing how wrong you are

You contradicted yourself, and are now embarrassed. It's fine.

I said there were no mass shootings in Switzerland where they are allowed to own guns, and then said that guns are not the only problem. You're running from this because you have no answer, obviously :)

Here you go, for accuracy sake ;)

You just tried to turn this into a gun law to distract from the facts that there are fewer mass shootings in Switzerland AND they can own guns legally, proving that guns are not the only problem, as Pixie Dust argued.

If I can derail the gun derailment with the original topic of the post, one of the kids has been charged with murder. What do you folks make of the bolded part below?

Boy, 14, Charged With Murder in Deadly Philly Traffic Cone Beating

A 14-year-old boy is charged with murder after he and a group of other youths allegedly beat a 73-year-old man to death in an attack using a traffic cone in North Philadelphia last month.

The teen and his 10-year-old brother surrendered to police Monday after surveillance video showing the attack led to a citywide search for the minors. The victim, James Lambert, died from his injuries the day after the attack, which happened just before 3 a.m. on June 24.

The 14-year-old is also charged with criminal conspiracy, Philadelphia Police Department spokesman, Officer Eric McLaurin, said Tuesday.
    …….
"It's a very sad situation for all of the children, for the man's family and for everybody involved," the brothers’ attorney, Rania Major, said Monday. "These are children, let's let them have their peace."

You are glad he died instead of giving him the opportunity to defend himself? Do you realize....what you just said?

People think what they are exposed to as children in my experience. If the culture and their parents (in cases where there are parents) say or insinuate by actions one group is superior or inferior, the kid will likely carry that forward into adulthood.

I agree not selling to a prospective customer, even green ones, is not an intelligent move. But there are certainly people dumb enough to do it. I think it would be interesting to let them and go out of business. Make them have skin in the game. :)

We heard you the first time. The usual suspect is upset that the black children are not being talked about anymore. Perhaps because there isn't much more to say other continue the stereotype racism against black people

Military issued rifles, which are kept at home by military age people are NOT for personal use. Other firearms in Switzerland are generally for sport shooting. If you don't know the difference between national defense and self defense, then thats on you, not me.

Reason? No, shooters have their reasons, or they are simply deranged, and the easy access to guns makes it easier to execute their plans. There has been mass shootings in Switzerland, but obviously a smaller nation will have a smaller number of them than one with 320million people. They also do not possess the same ratio of people with desire to kill, as we do in US. Why Americans are more violent is a question people have been asking for a long time.

Their militia based armed services are not for sport. Their gun culture exists because they feared/fear for their lives.

Hardly anyone is asking for disarming, but many are asking for Swiss style gun laws, which seem to work. Unfortunately the Swiss model is considered totally unacceptable by many in US, so nothing is going change.

Or, they can go in the complete opposite direction. My father was one of the worst racist (classic version) and bigots I've ever met. I made a choice to NEVER be like him.

What they are appropriately worried about is the slippery slope of giving any way. It may not be the best, but you can use Canada as evidence. They have strict gun laws, almost more than the Swiss and their kook of a prime minister has already taken a plethora of guns away, along with hand guns now in response to the two shootings in the US. He's disarming law abiding citizens, not criminals BTW, who get their guns illegally and not from robbing those who have them legally but rather from the black market. He's not addressing the problem. Often criminals who used guns illegally get off with a slap on the wrist. The laws are already there, but not being used. Many Canadians have seen the writing on the wall and want out.

Those who are law abiding and vigilant down here can see what happened there and in Australia.

    No thanks.

Why promote the Swiss model only to continue by saying its a "slippery slope" and therefore not acceptable?

Ok, the Swiss model sucks, and I was right, - the only thing that will change is the body count (it increases).

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I’ve seen that happen with drugs/alcohol so it makes sense. But I’ve seen it go the other way at a higher percentage with drugs/alcohol. :)

I was lucky enough to be raised by parents who never talked about racism but modeled MLKJ’s dream.

    Here's some accuracy.

    - I presented the Swiss model as evidence to debunk that only guns are the problem. This is an observable fact.
    - I explained what some are worried about with any restrictions to gun laws, the potential for a slippery slope as we have witnessed in Canada from the disarming of "dangerous" guns after the shooting in April 2020, to the taking away of hand guns
in response to the two shootings in the US. They are taking away guns from law abiding citizens who do not use them for harm rather than focusing on punishing criminals who use illegal guns in crime.

You don't see a problem with that?

I have been astonish by such claims about the police when all I see them do is try their best in BAD situation with no support from their superior and citizens allowed to totally abuse them as they try to carry out their jobs. You PREVENT crimes by PREVENTING criminals by locking them up when they commit a crime. We have cities and states run by Dems/Leftist/Progs who have changed than into we release and don't charge. And yes that has caused many of our best police officers to resign. That is why I oppose these Dem/Leftist/Progs who are funning things.

In the meantime what about that young girl at home alone in her apartment and the rapist is breaking in. And please don't tell me that in your country all it takes is a phone call to the police they are there to stop him in time.

Excuse me WHO wants to allow law abiding citizens to have guns AND the bad guys AND the mentally ill? Can you point me to someone or some groups that supports the AND?

In a civilized place with freedom and liberty the individual has their right to their life and the right to protect that life. In civilized country the citizens do not place the entirety of their protection in the government. And yes we are demanding the police who waited the 77 minutes be reviewed and subject to discipline or more. We do not need you to tell us we need to do so. Tell me do the police in your country stop every crime? There is no crime, no rape, no robbery, no murder because your police are so good they can stop them all before they occur?
