Pizza--Plain or Toppings?

Hah, try the stuff they make in Italy and then come again.

 

I buy really nice Focaccia bread at my Grocer.Sometimes it's
coated with just dried parmesan cheese and sometime cheese
and olives and little peppers.I swear If I toast slightly and
put in the microwave for a few seconds it comes out smelling and
tasting as good as any Pizza.
Toppings aren't the thing.The Bread is.I never buy Pizza.Well maybe
once a year.I love Pizza but they tend to be too greasy and seem to
lug me down.I seldom go to my Grocer w/o purchasing fresh
Focaccia.

 

I think the Deep dish Pizza originated in Chicago.
New Yorkers know food.They know Pizza,because of all the Italians
who emigrated there during the Turn-of-the-Century {1900} and
also good Hot Dogs and cold cuts { Kosher Pastrami } or the
great Reuben sandwich.New York Pastrami is the best the world over.
When I was in Harrods of London and the Great Food court,I saw
many types of Corned beef and pastrami.New York Pastrami is
known for it's thick black pepper crust.
If you watch a movie set in New York city you'll notice that whenever
Pizza is shown it seems kinda flat.That's because it's hand-tossed and
the best of homemade dough.
Got it now.
Thin & Crispy is laughable.
It's like saying you prefer thin & crispy dumplins.
Not to be confused with Chinese take-out.

 

Why not learn to make your own, then they won't be greasy.

 

Thin crust is my preference with thin sliced tomatoes, cheese, olives. peppers and onion.

 

Have you ever had grilled chicken with bacon and ranch pizza? Holy (*)(*)(*)(*) it is amazing!

I dont like pizza sauce for 3 reasons
1. Too much sugar, so it tastes like like crap
2. Its overpowering and soggy
3. Thats all you taste..the dam sauce. Try it with no sauce and you will actually be able to taste the pepperoni, cheese and other toppings...try it

 

Its so absolutely easy to make too. Love mine with fresh basil, Olive oil and a sprinkle of freshly grated Parm.

 

You have never had a real pie. Go to NY or NJ and get a real Italian pie made by real Italians and you'll juice your jeans.

 

You're forgetting the all-important tomato paste, unless that was what you were referring to when you said the "base". For instance, Papa John's tomato paste tastes like utter crap, while our local outfit, Ski & Bennie's, makes some of the best pizzas ever based largely on their choice of tomato paste. The stuff doesn't give you heartburn at all.

 

Tomato paste doesn't have much of a taste.It's good for adhering
herbs.I buy a little jar of Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto Sauce by Delallo.
It's pretty potent so you don't spead liberally.Add to chili and it's
Magnifique.Add to Stews and it thickens and provides zest.
Pizza w/o tomato paste would be kinda flat.
I don't buy Pizza.Basically because I don't trust those places.
You see the person at the counter taking the order and receiving
payment { dirty money } and then their over using the same hands
picking out pepperoni and stuff to put on the orders.
BTW ... Pizza holds pretty good if you wrap it in saran wrap while
it is still warm and then place in the frig.Take out the next day or so and
microwave for a few seconds { 10 seconds }.

i KNOW ... I know ... how hard it must be fer an Irishman to admit
having Pizza.Maybe it you said the Pizza had some nice Potatoes
on top.Au Gratin style.
Nah ... that won't work.Then you'd have to put sauerkraut on as
a topping as well.
Well you can always say you had a few pints of Guiness thinkin'
about ordering a Pizza.

 

LOL! I love pizza! Do you not see where I live?! I know you might have a heart attack, but I love thin crust, brick oven pizza with a lot of sauce and minimal cheese.

Toppings for me. But here's a warning, if you are travelling in various parts of Europe (Eastern countries, from my experience) and order a pizza, be *very* specific about the toppings. Sauce and cheese are just toppings and if the menu does say "tomato sauce" or "cheese", you won't get those.

 

Here is my last bit of luck.

 

I have a cabbage salad you'd luv - cabbage, apples, raisins and nuts w/poppy seed salad dressing......... it's GOOOOOD! And healthy........

 

I love everything in the cabbage salad you mentioned except... the cabbage.

 

I actually saw'yer an irish card once.
It was in the back alley of a Tavern as I was kinda beer'd up.Had too
many draughs.Lost count after about a dozen.Spent the better part of
a wednesday afternoon { slow part of Tavern business } hunched
up at the huge mahogny bar gettin' smarty and expressing all the kinds
of Jobs I dint want.I dint wanna be a Fireman,a Cop or a lawyer.
Forget being a Doctor,even a Dentist.Maybe a bricklayer or a Priest as
it WAS an Irish Bar.I wasn't no dummy.Gotta know what clientele
patron a joint.So,after lenghty and numerous soliloquy about all the jobs
I felt are beneath me output,started feelin' a bit like I needed me some
fresh air.Plus a place to puke out some suds.So,the back alley was as
good a place as any.Problem was,that alley was already taken.
Some Irish mug { Dwarf} looking the Leprechaun was busy casting
spells on whoever had the gall to go near his little chosen spot next to
the garbage bin.I asked him under what authority he thought he could
act as if that back alley was his private domain.
He slowed stood up,belched real loud,fumbled around in his back pocket,
took off his Green top hat,spit a goblin of goo at the garbage bin and
produced his wallet.There it was.His Irish Card.
I never again asked about what an Irish card was.

It all depends.

If fresh, the more toppings the better (in general).

If by the slice, just cheese is the best.

if left in the fridge for 3 days because your housemate works at a pizza place, and brings home all the ordered/not picked up pizza, cheese.
