This is an example of the slippery slope phenomena, and one thing serving as a precedent for something else down the road, gradually ratchetting up over time.

Forking over the mileage information every time you sell your car is reasonable. Having to report it every year is not.

If we did that, 20 years from now, inevitably there would be someone else who would say that justifies reporting it to the government every month, then automatically at the end of every day, and then automatically constantly sending it in real time.

this is hardly the slippery slope anyone cares about

the alternative is toll roads that tack you every step of the way, those are a slippery slope

I draw them on toll roads then, I already give up my millage when I buy or sell a car, so that is nothing to me

Yeah, you fail to understand the difference or distinction.
This is totally the slippery slope phenomena. "If this is okay, then this is okay, and then this..."

Have you ever read the book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie ?

and where do you see this going next?

many things have slipper slope potential, should we ban it all cause it might lead to someone wanting something bad, or should we just stop the something bad

A monitoring device in everyone's car that records information that is demanded by government is obviously getting into the type of territory that takes things too far.
It's better to keep taxes at the point of transfer, rather than on individual activities.

If you're not able to see how this type of policy is problematic, then your totalitarian indicator light must not be working.

nope, just like now, you tell them what your millage was, under penalty of law

a tracking device I agree would be a slippery slope that we should speak up against

It's not so simple. Once you put a hefty tax on something, there will be a much greater incentive to commit fraud with the mileage, requiring more security measures in place to prevent fraudulent altering of the millage numbers. This will be a slippery slope.

They would be forced to implement new regulations about the device in the car to record the mileage. A more complicated electronic device could lead to civil liberties concerns.

And do the people that hate Donald Trump think that that is a good thing?

None of them here seem to be complaining, so I think we can assume the answer is a resounding "yes".

Really...That's your take on something they should NEVER have had to commit fraud about in the first place, because it's clearly overeach.
