post your quote of the day here, whether politics related or not. To get us started, Thomas Paine- And in case that's too political- "The ball no question makes of aye's and no's but left or right as strikes the player goes." - Rubyatt of Omar Khayyam
Lift with you back, curse with your mouth. This is a Dutch Mennonite saying that my grandfather swore was the secret to success.
I get a Mennonite saying "lift with your back", but maybe I don't understand what they mean by "curse with your mouth". What might it all mean?
The normal saying is lift with your legs, not your back. Cursing makes loads lighter and easier to manage so you can go ahead and lift with your back. Try it, it works.
Yeah that might work, unless you are the employer- then you just tell your laborer to lift it. Like the Germans always say, "When you tell somebody to do something always use your outdoor voice, especially if you are indoors."
I lived, worked and studied in Germany for a few years but don't remember hearing that particular expression before. Is it from a particular part of Germany or a fairly new saying? There is another German saying for which I've developed a special appreciation. "In der Not, frißt der Teufel Fliegen." =. "In times of need, the devil will eat flies." ( ß = ss ) I'm afraid that after decades of not speaking German mine is a bit rusty but I think that it's right. Thanks,
Oh I never said it was a saying Grau, I just meant that's how those of German decent do it. It may be part of german culture, or not. Maybe its part of the culture of the trade I was in. I worked with a bunch of German carpenters. When they were explaining something to someone they seem as reasonable as anyone, but when they asked a fellow to do something they would get that fellow to jump. I don't speak German, but I ate a bratwurst with kraut a time or three.
I can believe it. The Germans take their work seriously. I learned how to work with stone from a German stone mason. Earlier, he was a Waffen SS officer on the Eastern Front, was captured then tortured, lost his entire family and home. I got to know him pretty well and can't imagine him to have been the stereotypical sadist as per Hollywood. I think that it's helpful to remember that all sides used atrocity propaganda during WW 2 and the Allies were no different. Thanks,
Most people look at the holocaust perpetrators and say to themselves- "Well I could never do that!" Bullsxxx. You could do it, your neighbor could do it, and I could do it. That's why all the Germans did it- they are human just like you and me. But how quickly we forget. Nobody seems to remember the some 100 million plus that Mao, Stalin, and Pol Pot exterminated or starved to death. But the all know about the German nazis knocking off six million Jews, and we all just know the Nazi were right wing, despite the fact that totalitarian "right wing" government is for all practical purposes indistinguishable from a left wing totalitarian government. The only difference between the two is who government claims to be the protected class.
Thank you for such refreshing observations. One of the more repulsive characteristics of people who have been professionally deceived by the Holocaust Industry, Hollywood and MSM is their smug, superior and sanctimonious attitude toward the German people as if they would have behaved more courageously. Any objective and serious student of the WW 2 era must soon discover that the Germans were no more cruel and ruthless than any other participant. If anything, they were somewhat less so than the Allies whose propaganda prevails to this day: "Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past." (1) George Orwell Re: Just recently a Florida school principal was fired just because he told a parent that not everybody believes that the Holocaust happened as claimed. Additionally, there are about 16 so-called "democracies" where you can loudly declare that Stalin killed no one, Mao was an angel and Pol Pot a saint. However, even a whisper that all of the fragile Holocaust story may not be completely true will put you in jail and / or fined. Therefore, I thought that the following quote would be appropriate: “If you would know who controls you see who you may not criticise.” (2) ― Tacitus Thanks again and enjoy what's left of the weekend, (1).https://www.forbes.com/quotes/3552/...the future; who,the present controls the past. There are always going to be those days when it just isn't worth the effort to gnaw through your leather restraining straps.
"There is nothing wrong with the car except that it is on fire!" - Formula One announcer Murray Walker
I've read studies that conclude that cursing actually decreases the perception of pain. I reckon it works similar for strain.
I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was. Ya, I know, its a lyric to an overplayed song ...but its true!!
