A long time ago, before this Union was established, our Constitution ratified, and our system of laws was created...OK.

Everything you say must be founded in xenophobia because there is no other explanation for YOUR comments on this thread about this topic!

Instead of so-called Americans crying like babies that some boogeymen have stolen all of their great jobs, why don't these so-called Americans get out there and compete for those jobs?

And if YOU would read my posts YOU would know that in my area the farm workers union just concluded negotiations with Gallo and the new wages are $10 to $16/hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And these ARE NOT illegals!!!!!!!!! They are Americans or green card workers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can kill all the illegals tomorrow, or today if you're in a hurry to get that wonderful job they are stealing from you...and it won't change the current wages a single penny...

This is your quote "Of course, most of us came from immigrants - legal, respectful, law-abiding immigrants that came to America the well-established legal way."

If you're talking about 'most of us' then how long ago can it be...

It's still a problem that needs to be dealt with.

That doesn't matter. The point was that most immigrants followed the proper chanels.

    It does matter.

Unless a country is going to place a defensible security fence around the entire perimeter of that country, or that country will strictly and harshly enforce immigration laws/policy, how do you expect anything to change?

I have seen nothing from our government, no matter which party is in control, that is willing to build a fence or do harsh and full enforcement.

If you want migrants to go through 'proper channels' then you must design these 'channels' so that they quickly and easily process individuals. If 'proper channels' is going to take years to achieve, and there are no fences, and little enforcement, then we're back to the status quo.

Maybe for some illustrious person with some extra time on their hands, it would be interesting to know in precise detail, starting maybe in 1950 through today, what was the starting population in 1950, how many citizens have been born, how many citizens have died, how many migrants came through legal immigration, and compare this outcome to today's population data. I assume today's population data is kind of sketchy regarding illegals?? It would also be interesting to know this same information for the period 1875 through 1950 since many people DID NOT come through proper channels...

The truth is Americans don't really want 'those' jobs currently occupied by illegals and other boogeymen.

Americans will consider those jobs if the wages are doubled and tripled and there's a full complement of benefits including paid sick leave, paid vacation, paid holidays, medical insurance, 401K programs, stock options, car allowance, and a tolerance for tardiness.

The other truth is that many businesses simply don't wish to deal with the dismal work performance of Americans...and hence the conundrum...

Come on, we've been through this before - illegal immigration, of course.

Let's get on with it. Unfortunately, most politicians do not have the balls to secure our country, and prevent illegal immigration.

'Illegal immigration' is not a problem...it's just two words that don't define a problem.

This thread debates that illegals ARE NOT taking jobs from Americans. Once again, what do you see as a 'problem' with illegal immigrants?

If YOU don't believe they have the balls to do things YOUR way, then aren't you being a little righteous?

Is it possible that most people don't want a fence around the USA and check points in order to pass?

Is it possible that most people do not wish to pay additional taxes in order to provide full enforcement?

Is it possible that most people believe that illegal immigration is a low priority?

There are lots of reasons why things are done or not done other than being driven by having the 'balls' to appease you...

Since you are a big fan of illegals, you won't agree.

I have posted links, on other threads you are subscribed to, regarding the negative economic impact that illegals have on our economy, from entitlements, medical care, education, and crime.

They are law-breakers, and we live in a land of laws.

If you don't have a problem with illegals, then I assume you give pass to other law-breakers.

    You are wrong.

If most people would open their eyes to the problems of an open border, lack of national security, and illegal aliens sucking off our economy, then, YES, most will certainly support that something be done.

I'm just trying to root out the xenophobics from the discussion. If you or others believe 'they' are a problem, then define the problem!

You believe 'they' have a negative economic impact on education?? Where do you dream this up? If 'they' earn lower wages then 'they' don't pay income taxes just like 50 million other Americans don't pay income tax so even if they were LEGAL income tax revenue would not change! 'They' mostly rent and some own property and this would not change if all of them were legal! All of 'them' pay sales and use taxes just like you and me! Whether they are legal or not they cannot possibly provide more funding to support education than they currently do. Maybe you don't like that some of them cannot speak perfect English??

Leave your xenophobia in the closet and tell me how 'they' have a negative impact on education?

You can say I'm wrong and you can pretend I am wrong but reality proves me right so now what? Illegal immigration is barely on the radar of continuing national surveys regarding American's top priorities...this is a fact! It is rarely in the top 10 or 20 lists! I live in a society filled with brown-skinned people, with no one knowing who is legal or not, and everyone lives in harmony! No one is complaining about lost jobs or low wages or anything...so how do YOU explain reality?

    The only explanation is xenophobia...

I find it difficult to believe that not a single job has ever been lost to an illegal immigrant in America.

That's because it just simply isn't true. I can't believe someone is trying to even justify that claim, let alone make it.

I shut a company down here in Houston(ish) due to not being able to compete with illegals. I don't even understand how they do it. We were in the industrial janitor business. I had to keep a 2 million dollar insurance umbrella alive, meet payroll for just over 60 employees. My grandfather immigrated (legally by the way) here from Italy and started that business. I had to verify each employes SS number to hire them and get them out there in the refineries. These shyster companies have figured out how to get their illegals out there in it. You report it, nothing happens. They are a serious problem. Its a sore subject with me. I had to lay off all of those legal Hispanics on account of that. They were not happy about that either. I don't know why we don't hear more from the legal Hispanic citizenry about this issue.

First of all, most do not assimilate into American society. They maintain their groups, and do not learn English and respect this country like the immigrants of yesteryear.

Many States have now passed legislation to allow illegal aliens the ability to receive in-State tuition. This cost burden is put on the States. It's an outrage. These people do not belong here, let alone qualify for any benefits.

The States that allow this are shameless.

How Day Laborer Hiring Sites Promote Illegal Immigration:

The proliferation of day laborer hiring sites has paralleled the explosion of the illegal alien problem in the United States. What was once largely a problem confined to large city sweatshops and seasonal crop agriculture has expanded enormously as illegal aliens have spread across the country into the meat processing industry, construction, assembly-line work, services such as landscaping, and all sorts of casual day labor jobs. Studies show 84 percent of day laborers are illegal immigrants.

While there are for-profit temp agencies that supply day laborers, most of the groups that refuse to screen for legal entitlement to work in the United States are run by non-profit groups, often with ties to churches or ethnic organizations, and sometimes receiving public funding. The hiring sites that have mushroomed around the country generally have been created to deal with the problems caused by groups of immigrant workers (largely illegal aliens) who congregate on street corners waiting for persons seeking laborers to drive by. In some areas, these informal hiring sites have caused traffic disturbances, and the lack of sanitary facilities has often led to public urination. Nearby established businesses have often complained to the police that the gatherings drive away their clients. Other common complaints include public drunkenness and harassment of pedestrians

In response, some private groups (often including Latino service groups and church-based groups) have worked to get local governments to establish formal hiring sites to get these workers off the streets. Part of this approach is to establish an orderly process for the workers to match up with employers and to establish a record of the employer so that if there is a complaint of non-payment, there is a basis for investigation.

Zero jobs have been lost to illegals!

All the cry-baby Americans need to do is get their spoiled asses off of their barcaloungers and go out and look around and they will find that all the jobs are still there! Now if Americans don't wish to compete for these jobs, no matter if they are illegal or legal labor, then the Americans should march themselves to the nearest mirror and proclaim to what they see in that mirror as being pathetic whiny-babies...
