The "law" in question is "jaywalking" across an imaginary State line without proper inspection. It is the equivalent to a misdemeanor. The several and sovereign States of our Union were even provided with their own Constitutional remedy regarding the importation of persons and the delegation of the former State's right over immigration to the general government of the Union. It is a federal matter, not a matter retained by the several States for immigration purposes. The several and sovereign States, do however, retain their sovereignty regarding their own markets and State inspections for that purpose.
So, with less than seventy cases, why is this even a political passion of the moment, for either party? Whence any claim of voter fraud influenced elections in any given State of our Union? Any links?
...and it is a felony to walk the other way across the line, as it should be sneaking into the U.S. We are a land of laws, and have every right to protect our borders, and control who gets in, and who does not.
I agree with you that we only have the illegal problem we do, because of our moral failure to be legal to our own laws instead of merely blaming less fortunate illegals for their illegality to our laws.
From one perspective, the only real difference between our two federal republics, is our own federal Constitution and its Bill of Rights.
Our Founding Fathers did an excellent job at intelligently designing our federal Constitution and supreme law of the land.
All I am claiming, is that we would not have an illegal problem, if we were moral enough to bear true witness to our own laws and "legal" in both the moral and the legal sense instead of merely blaming less fortunate illegals for their illegalities.
It is ludicrous to suggest that there are less than 70 cases of voter fraud. I would guess there are millions, as voters are required to show nothing more than a driver's license. Millions of them are illegal aliens. No, I don't have any source links (at this moment), but then neither did Oakchair whom you responded to (even after he was asked to produce them).
In other words, why resort to the abomination of hypocrisy regarding our own laws, even with a McCarthy era phrase in our pledge of allegiance to help out?
Which is a CRIME punishable by 6 months in a federal prison for a first offense. Two years imprisonment for a second offense.
Because the poll officials only ask for an ID, usually a driver's license or state ID card which any illegal alien can easily obtain. Proof of citizenship isn't being required, at least not in any of the places where I went to vote over the past 10 years.
There are worse crimes that could use those resources. Besides, why not use public sector intervention in private sector markets in a manner that functions as a public sector means of production which can generate revenue to defray our tax burden, instead of merely denying and disparaging individual liberty.
That isn't the question I am asking. Why are they on the voter rolls in the first place, and shouldn't those rolls be verified?
