Rasmussen is about the only pollster which uses "Likely Voters" all year. That means people who have consistently shown up to vote over the last several cycles. Most other pollsters only survey "likely voters" close to elections, then they survey "registered voters", or your "Average" American regardless if they ever registered or voted.

From a political standpoint, no one cares about the "Average" American who doesn't ever register or vote.

That's one reason Rasmussen is often much more accurate when the elections do roll around than any other polling company. The rest "make you feel good" though, if you're on the left-of-center.
